I AM IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

Lauren looks at her ticket as they pull up in the North Pole.

Punched in it is a B on one end and an E on the other. She doesn't know what to think of it, but she knows it probably doesn't matter as this is all a dream anyway.

Dinah pulls her out of her thoughts, "Where are the elves?"

Lauren looks around, now confused. Where are the elves? This is supposed to be the North Pole.

"They're in the center of town," the conductor responds, "that's where Santa will give the first gift of Christmas."

Lauren stiffens, the first gift of Christmas? It seems unreal.

"Who gets it?" Lauren asks, "The first gift, who gets it?"

"Anyone on this train," he responds, fixing his hat, "We're almost there. Make sure you girls get off when the train stops."

Dinah and her nod, but Lauren doesn't notice any reaction from the other girl in the room.

The girl hasn't said anything, she barely acknowledged them when she came back inside and planted herself on one of the seats.

The train finally comes to a stop after a couple of rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors between Dinah and Lauren, and the two get off the train. Camila and Ally are already lined up with the others, seemingly talking about something.

"We're gonna go see Santa, Lo!" Camila cheers when they get closer, "You excited?"

"Yeah," Lauren nods, pressing a kiss to Camila's cheek and then nuzzling that spot with her nose, "I love you."

"I love you too," Camila wraps her arm around the other girl's waist, "We should be going soon."

Lauren nods, pulling away from Camila when she notices Dinah looking anxiously back at the train.

"I'm gonna see what's up with Dinah," Lauren says, surprised when Camila presses a kiss against her lips, "I'll be back, I love you."

"Alright," Camila says, "Don't be late."

Lauren shrugs, "I have five minutes."

She runs over to where Dinah went, shocked when Dinah climbs back on the last car of the train. She must be getting that girl.

She gets on the train herself, sure that she just broke a piece of ice or something when a stair moves underneath her.

"It's Christmas," Dinah says to the girl, glancing over at Lauren, "C'mon, Santa's there and I'm there and grumpy will be there too."

Lauren crinkles her nose at the nickname, but chooses to ignore it, "She's right. It's Christmas, even if this is all a giant fantasy, might as well enjoy it."

"It's a pretty elaborate fantasy," Dinah comments quietly.

"Christmas isn't my thing, guys," the girl replies, "Never has been, probably never will be."

"Oh come on! Christmas is the best time of the year! Everything smells super comforting, there are pretty lights everywhere, family and friends hang out and give gifts and Santa leaves presents under the Christmas tree," Dinah rattles off, "It's, as cheesy as it is, the most wonderful time of the year!"

"Christmas doesn't go well for me. There's nothing I can do about it," she responds, and Dinah sighs.

Lauren runs a hand through her hair, "I don't care if it doesn't go well for you. I don't know what's going on, I don't know why we're here, but if by some twist of faith this is all real, you might as well embrace it. Who cares about all the other Christmases? Let this one be a good one."
