The next day is filled completely with traveling, nothing more. Sitting in the tan seats of the Impala, going anywhere that is in the complete opposite direction of the location we were at the night before. Open highway met a slightly cloudy sky, and that was it.
At about 9 at night, we arrived at our destination. After nearly 10 hours straight of driving, we were all relieved to see the place. I had no idea where we were, but it was a welcome sight, wherever it was.
"Welcome to the bunker," Dean smiled, unlocking the door with a strange looking key. It was an iron door, built into a cement wall. Honestly, it looked like we were walking into an electrical store closet. The door was tan with just the lock, so I didn't expect to see what I did. Sam carried in my bag, and I followed him in. Lucy padded close to my legs, her fuzzy tail brushing against me every few steps. A massive place that looked somewhat like a library unraveled before me, and I grinned. A pleasant smell floated in the air, coming from what I assume is a kitchen. It was gigantic.
"Honey, I'm home!" Dean shouts, and a man walks out from the other room, grinning.
"I thought you guys would never come back!Hey man! I'm cooking up some burgers. I got your message and thought you'd be hungry. Um... I didn't know we had company, so I only made three, but I can make a sandwich or something," the man smiles at me, and I smile back. He's cute. What's with all the attractive men? Not that I'm arguing...
"I'm Kevin," he tells me flirtatiously, walking toward me to shake my hand. I hold onto his hand a little too long and blush, making Dean roll his eyes.
"Serve me up some meat, man! I can't wait for you to charm May. Let's just eat. She's Sam's student that's being followed by demons, blah blah, May, Kevin is a prophet, also wanted by hell, now you know each other. Now we can also eat burgers," Dean says impatiently, and I laugh. Luckily Sam went to go get a room ready for me, so he didn't see me blush.
"Nice to meet you, May," Kevin smiles, and I smile back. He lets go of my hand to head out into the tiled kitchen. Lucy follows Kevin, her nose in the air, and I laugh a little. She must be hungry too.
Soon enough, after about five minutes of awkwardly sitting at the table while Dean is on his phone, Kevin comes out with two plates, pushing the kitchen door open with his back. The first plate has three burgers on it, and the second has a generous amount of fries. Sam walks out of the kitchen, having entered from the other side, carrying pickles, mustard, ketchup, and buns. Lucy follows him, but comes and lays close to me once he sat down at the table.
"I haven't have burgers since god knows when," I exclaim, digging in to fix my late-night dinner.
I feel bad that I'm eating Kevin's share of fries and his burger, but he seems content eating chips and a sandwich. I'm grateful, and once I take the first bite, any bit of regret fades. I haven't had a good homemade burger for what seems like a lifetime. I nearly moan at how good it is. It's like heaven on a bun.
"Thank you, Kevin. I really appreciate it. These are great! I've been living on my own for a while, so I've had noodles to eat for dinner almost every day for a year," I laugh, taking a break from eating. Kevin pushes his straight brown hair from his eyes and chuckles a little. His smile is brilliant, and the way the corners of his eyes crinkle up when he smiles really makes you want to smile with him. His cheerfulness is.. Contagious. That's a quality that is rare, especially in these difficult times for me. And for that, I'm grateful as well.
"No problem. I really don't mind. I'm glad you like the burgers," Kevin admits, and then he grins. I can tell we're going to be good friends, even though I don't know how long we are going to be staying in the bunker.
