She's Home

A gray jeep pulls into the gravel driveway and I hear a screech from my little sister as she starts to run towards the car.

I hop out of the truck and open the car door for her, she slowly steps out. "Hi, Rae Rae!" she says excitedly. I can tell she's exhausted from the bags under her eyes and how slow she moves. Just as I start to hug her Kaila comes and pushes me out of the way and wraps her arms around my mom.

"Ow, baby, too tight," she exclaims.

"I'm sorry, Mommy." But continues doing it. I gently pull her off and pull my mother into a small embrace before getting the bags out of the car and bringing them inside.

The driveway is crammed right in front of the front door, which has a wooden stairway leading up to it. You enter the miniature kitchen once you walk in and on your left is a small doorway that leads to the living room, which is about the size of a master bedroom. At the end of the room on the right is the bathroom and on the left is the bedroom. That is the entire house. There is a cement-covered basement underneath and the neighbors are about fifteen feet away with the same sized house. There is grass surrounded the three or four houses in the alley and a small business behind them. At the end of the alley is the river, the most refreshing river of all time.

My two sisters and I sleep in the living room while my mom and stepdad reside in the bedroom. The house is insanely small, but it's better than nothing and pretty cozy with the furniture they place around it.

I put away the couple of bags of groceries and go back outside to ask how my mom's day at work was. Once I step outside I see them whispering to each other and separate quickly as they see me.

I decided against asking her and go to my original place to find new books. Both of them go inside and I'm left alone to dwell upon my self. I turn off my music for some unknown reason and lock the tablet my mother so graciously donated to me. She was intoxicated when she did so I felt even worse.

I previously had an iPod touch before the summer began, but I misplaced it the day I shattered it.

You're so immature and irresponsible. You deserve nothing.

I know.

My mother eventually comes out and tells me it's too late to stay outside. I press the unlock button on the device to read the time; 11:38.

Shit.

I don't want to go inside but I obey my mother and grab my tablet while hopping out of the back of the truck. There's a lot of things in the back of the truck like chairs and garbage. I make a note to myself to clean it out tomorrow.

Once I'm inside I make my bed with the extra blankets my sisters didn't already take and start to make my bed on the floor. Both my sisters slept on the couches and there wasn't enough room for me so I thought it was easiest to just lay down here. Plus, my sisters complain too much when they lay on the floor because "it hurts their back" or "its too hard".

After I'm finished I go into the bathroom so I don't have to hear the incessant arguments between my sisters over who gets the remote tonight. The door doesn't do much to block out the noise since the bathroom is so close to the main room, but I try my best to ignore it.

I sit on the ground and turn on my video chat to see my friend, Max. He recently lived in Sierra Vista with me but moved away to a different city permanently once the summer began. I tried to see him as much as possible because I know once school starts I won't have time to.

"Well, look who FINALLY showed up," he sarcastically remarked.

"I was reading earlier, sorry," I laughed.

"It's cool. What's up?"

"Nothing really, I'm not allowed outside right now so I thought I'd video chat this loser friend of mine."

"You video chatted someone else before me? What the hell bro?" he says, making sure to spread out the word "bro".

"I'm calling you the loser, smart one." I laugh.

"Oh, hey, I'm cooler than you." he says while rolling his eyes.

"Sure. Sure. But hey, I'm actually kind of tired tonight, so I might head out." I reply.

"Don't do that to me, man. I'm bored." he grunted.

"You're playing video games!" I say as I laugh. "But seriously, I'm going to bed. Goodnight, luh you."

"Mhm. Love you too."

And with that I press the hang up button. I set the tablet down and brushed my teeth and wash my face. Right before I was going to used the bathroom I heard someone bang on the door.

"Get out of the bathroom! You're taking way too long!" Kaila screamed.

"I'll be right out," I say and finish up my business.

I scoot by her and she rolls her eyes when I pass. I head into the kitchen to get a drink but don't find anything good, so I give up. I grab my earphones from the shelf in the kitchen and lay down in my "bed".

Usually I stay up until about seven in the morning every night and wake up at around four but for some reason, sleep sounded awesome tonight.

Immediately when I put my earphones in I start to drift off and the world becomes a pit of darkness.

-Sorry, the chapter's short.

Usually I don't leave notes at the end but whatever. The story's not interesting yet, but just wait. (:
