It's hard to trust when all you have from the past
Is why you shouldn't.
———————————————————————————I woke up to the feeling of hitting the cold floor. I groaned, squinting my eyes and glaring at the old woman standing over me, her can in her hand.
"About time you woke up," she grumbled.
"You just kicked me out of bed!" I yelled in disbelief.
"You really believe these old bones could do something to that extreme?"
I glared at her as she walked back around the bed to sit in her swivel chair. I quickly untangled myself from the thin white blanket and stood. I wobbled, unsteady on my feet. I looked up, surprised to see Recovery Girl contentedly sitting in her seat, smirking at me.
"That's the consequences of your actions," she said, chuckling as she watched my grip on the guardrail tighten.
"My what?"
"Your consequences. I decided not to heal you for your little snarky comment earlier today."
"You were being just as snarky!" I pointed my finger at her, eyes opened wide.
"I know," she replied, her old face breaking into a grin.
If it were any other old woman, I would have believed they were just acting old and forgetting things. But this was Recovery Girl, and I knew better than that. That little old lady was insane, and her grin was the grin of evil itself.
I hissed. "You absolute sadist-"
"Can one of you tell me what exactly is going on here?"
I whipped my head around at the familiar tired voice.
"Dadzawa! This woman is insane. She kicked me out of my bed!" I complained. "Remind me again why she works with children?"
"Like I've said before, many times, she is the best healer around," he answered.
I narrowed my eyes. "She likes to cause others pain—"
Dad sighed. "Respect your elders, Airi." He smirked at me. "And don't pretend like you don't do the same."
I pouted and crossed my arms over my chest. "I do not—"
"Airi, the other day we were walking downtown and you watched a child drop their ice cream and laughed for 10 minutes." He cut me off again with tired eyes.
"Does that really count though?" I tried to defend myself.
"And yesterday," Dad continued. "Hizashi tripped over open air and fell, and you proceeded to call him "Present Sike" for the rest of the day."
"Ok, but...."
He stared at me. "You kept asking him if he tripped over an aux cord and kept saying 'Thank you for tripping in, listener'."
I let out a laugh against my will. "You can't deny that was good though."
Dadzawa let out a small smirk before turning to Recovery Girl. "I can take it from here," he said, grabbing my arm. Recovery Girl nodded and he led me out the door.
"So what did you two fight about this time?" He asked as we walked down the halls.
"Just something I said when she checked up on me at the end of the exam."
