I had been summoned by the governor!
They dressed me in suit and tie, the works. I put gel in my messy hair and shaved. I wanted to look my best for the high ranking government official.
When I rushed out, the limousine was waiting for me. We all bundled into it and headed downtown to city hall.
Getting out to the magnificent red and white pillared building. The architects were really worth their weight in gold. Entering the golden brown door to the clerk, she pointed me to the elevator. After a short ride, I was walking down the magnificently decorated halls, until I came upon one office.
The plaque was in unintelligible Russian, but on the door, in binder paper, someone had scribbled in English: Moscow Governor. Nodding to Afonasii, who shadowed me to provide translations, and Morow, for defence, I slowly pushed on the squeaky door. There, behind a great desk, was the man. On his name tag, it read: Alexy Kruschev. In English, but with a heavy accent.
"Ah! So you have arrived." He got up from his seat to shake my hand, " It's so finally happy to meet you. So sorry about your troubles."
"Don't mention it. So... what did you want me here for?"
"Ah. So good you move straight to point no? The simple answer is that, you are registered foreigner during a time of emergency. As such, you are here to stay."
"What!" My blood ran cold. I couldn't stay here, I couldn't be separated from the settlement I had worked so hard for, that I shedded blood for! "Im sorry sir, but... I have friends and family back in California, I can't just up and leave."
"No. But..." he sighed, "As per local policy, you have to do some act of loyalty to prove you are not a threat, if you wish to leave."
"Okay. So what? I have to do a street clean up or something?"
He sighed once more. "You must participate in an active combat situation against our enemy." I shivered, he doesn't mean... "You must help us defend the motherland from the tyranny of this 'zombie' infection."
I thought it over, I had killed these monsters before, now it's a full time job with better equipment. But, leaving my dad, my brother, with no certainty of returning home.
"What about my team who I brought with me?"
"Our intelligence suggests they are of no harm, it's you who's more interesting."
"If you're enlisting him, I'll go as well." Afonasii shouted out.
"No way. If I have to go, I'm not dragging you down with me."
He laid a hand on my shoulder. "No. I brought you into this, and I'll follow through."
Morrow shrugged. "I am going wherever you are going."
I took a deep breath. "Okay. It's your choice." I turned back to Governor Alexy. "All of us will be going."
"Very well. I assign you to the 501 detachment in the 3rd guards Spetsnaz brigade, where you will serve one week of active combat against the zombies. Good day to you, удачи."
