Dan and Amy Cahill were in their mansions, sitting on the sofas. Dan was playing a game on his new ipad while Amy was reading a book on Lost Paintings and their Artists. It was 6 in the evening and the sun was setting in a red glow that illuminated the living room.
"Where are they?" Dan asked, looking up from his game. "It's way past 5 o'clock! I thought Cahills were supposed to be punctual!"
"I've told you a hundred times, Dan," Amy said, half exasperatedly. "They're all coming in the same flight and it got delayed."
"The only time they travel together and the flight gets delayed," Dan said. "Great."
"They'll be here, Dan," Amy said assuringly. "Don't worry."
"I still don't get why we have to continue these stupid family reunions every year," Dan said.
"Ok, first, they're not stupid. Second, we do this because we're Madrigals and it's part of a Madrigal's job to bring the Cahill branches together, Grace did. And third, only the young Cahills are coming, no adult ones to ruin the fun," Amy said, smiling.
"What fun?" Dan asked. "All the reunions so far have been total disasters!"
"They've not been disasters," Amy said, twirling her hair.
"Not disasters, huh? On the first family reunion, the Holts got into a fight that got so bad that they started destroying the mansion and we had to send everyone home. On the second one, Ian got mad at Reagan for pulling a prank on him and 'accidentally' poisoned her with one of his darts, which I was shocked to find that he was still carrying those needles around like they were as normal as candy, and then we had to give her an antidote. On the last one, we had to drive Natalie to an exclusive designer shop, miles away, to buy her an outfit so she wouldn't have to wear a same outfit twice!" Dan exclaimed, while Amy listened helplessly. "No disasters at all! It was so much fun!" Dan put as much sarcasm as he could in that last comment.
"Okay, so they have been total disasters," Amy said, finally. "But I have a feeling this reunion will be the best!"
"I know your instincts are wicked smart, Amy," Dan said. "But they're not totally trust-worthy at the point."
"Shut up!" Amy exclaimed. "This is going to be fun, Dan."
"Alright, you say that the reunion will be fun, I say it'll be a disaster again, wanna bet?" Dan asked holding out his hand.
"What're we gonna bet for?" Amy asked suspiciously.
"How about the master bedroom?" Dan offered. "It's the biggest room after Fiske and Nellie's room."
"Deal," Amy announced, shaking Dan's hand.
"Oh, this is gonna be awesome!" Dan exclaimed. "I could fit my whole collection in that room, and that's saying something."
"That room's gonna be mine, Dan," Amy said, smirking. "Don't get overexcited."
"In your dreams," Dan said.
Amy was about to reply when her phone buzzed. "It's them," Amy told Dan, putting the phone to her ear.
"Okay.....No, I'm sorry the limo didn't arrive there yet......wha-......alright!.......I'll call him......just wait, Natalie!" And with that, Amy hung up the phone.
"Let me guess. Natalie, right?" Dan asked, grinning.
Amy nodded. "The limos haven't arrived at the airport yet, and Natalie doesn't like to be kept waiting. Let me call the drivers a sec."
