Dean just couldn't believe it. Castiel, his Castiel, stoned? In five years he was become this...this neglected junkie. He couldn't believe it.
He starred at Castiel, mouth opened, while he was washing his hands in a dirty sink.

"Why are you looking at me like that Dean?" Castiel demanded, noticing it.

"It's just...It's just that you are, uh, really different of the Castiel from 2009..." Dean admitted.

"Probably." He stayed silent then added "2009 heh? (A nostalgic smile came over his lips) It was exactly one year before you..."

"Before I what?"

Castiel looked at him then sighed.

"Never mind."

Dean was wondering what he was talking about but decided to finally let this go.

"Don't get me wrong, Cas. I, uh. I'm happy that the stick is out of your ass, but what's going on with the drugs and the orgies and the love-guru crap?"

Castiel laughed.

"What's funny?" Dean grumbled.

"Dean. I'm not an angel anymore."

Dean furrowed his brows.

"What?"

Castiel smiled, shrugging his shoulders.

"Yep, I'm not an angel anymore, isn't that funny?" He smirked.

He started laughing again but it sounded like a forced laugh to Dean. It was like behind the drugs he was just broken and didn't know how to act anymore. He was completely crazy.

"But...How?"

"I think it had something to do with the other angels leaving. But when they bailed, my mojo just kind of- psshhew!-" he mimed an explosion with his hands, "Drained away. And now, you know, I'm practically human."

"But...Why did you stay?"

The grin on Castiel's face slowly erased and during a few seconds he was quiet. He had this faraway look he saw sometimes when he was lost in his thoughts.

"I stayed for you Dean." He finally muttered.

During one moment, Dean saw Castiel, the real Castiel. He was trying to resist the urge to hug him. He wanted so hard to do it, tell him that all was going to be okay, and he didn't know why. He was going to ask him the reason of his choice but he suddenly saw Castiel taking a joint, trying to light it. He jumped and took it from his hands.

"Damn it Cas'! "he exclaimed, throwing it away.

"You're really Dean from the past." Castiel giggled, laying in an old sofa

Dean followed him and sat in front of him, reflecting about what he said.

"Wait...I let you take these craps? I mean, the Me here."

"Yep. I guess you think I'm a burden and that it's better if I'm not there."

Dean looked at him with bewilderment.

"I...I could never think that about you!"

"Much has changed over the past five years Dean." The ex-angel answered, still with this strange smile.

Dean was now scared. He was scared to be in this year, a man he would never want to be. Did he let all his friends behind just for his revenge? Even his best friend? It couldn't be. It just, couldn't be.
Suddenly, they heard a phone ringing.
"Ah it's me." Castiel said, pulling his phone out of his pocket.
"Yeah?"
He smiled.
"Dean! Heh You will never guess who is actually with me."
