"You know me." Steve's voice cracked with the sadness of knowing that his best friend no longer knew who he was.
"No I don't!" Bucky attacked Steve, throwing several punches before backing off.
"I'm not gonna fight you." Steve dropped his shield, the only thing that gave him a chance against whatever had taken over in Bucky's struggling mind, into the ocean below. "You're my friend."
"And you're my mission." Bucky attacked once again, this time forcing Steve to the ground and almost knocking him out. Almost.
"Then finish it. Because I'm with you til the end of the line." Bucky's face showed recognition. He'd heard those words before. He knew this man. But how? Before he could begin to wrap his tortured brain around it, the ship exploded, causing Steve to plummet to the waters he was previously floating above. Moments before Steve lost consciousness, he sees a glimpse of Bucky's metallic arm reaching. Reaching for him.
"Til the end of the line."
No friendship was stronger. No words hit deeper. "The end of the line." But what if the line never ended?
