The morning air was warm and comforting but you were anything but comfortable. You sat alone on your couch wrapped in blankets as you watched pink haired Tae a few feet away from you at the table. You were pouting because he had unintentionally been ignoring you, it was a couple days now until he had to leave for tour so Tae decided to spend some nights at your apartment before he had to leave so his timing was terrible. You glare at his back secretly wishing he would turn around and smile at you but he didn't. It took him three minutes before he came and plopped sluggishly on the couch across from you staring at his phone, air pods blaring in both his ears so loud you could hear it. You glare at him, hoping he looks up, he suddenly does and it catches you off guard and you dart your eyes away
" Did you say something?" you turn back to Tae and he has plucked out an air pod with a curious expression. If you weren't mad at him then it would have drove you crazy but you weren't going let him off that easy
" No, it's nothing." you wanted to sound upset but you didn't want to be one of those annoying girlfriends that is super passive aggressive for no reason, but you did have a reason so it wouldn't be that bad if you were a little passive ,right? You got up and threw the blankets back where you were sitting and stomped towards the kitchen. You could tell that his eyes were following you in your polka dot pajamas and slippers but you didn't care, you faced the coffee machine and put some coffee grounds in the filter and pushed the button then slid down the draws and sat on the cold white tiles below you. You stare at the unstained wooden island in front of you, glad it protected you from the wandering eyes of the boy who still sat on the couch. You can smell the fresh black coffee mixing with the grounds, the machine beeps and you stand up, using the top of the island as a brace for your achy legs. You face the machine once again with the accomplishment of not making eye contact with Tae, you open the cabinet right above the coffee and select the perfect mug. You close the door across the left side of your face to see someone out of the corner of your eye
"Ah!" It was Tae. How the hell get over here without you hearing him? 'Damn him and his fuzzy socks.' you thought. You slightly glare at him and go back to pouring your coffee
"Sorry. Is there something wrong?" his voice was deep, gravely from getting up only 45 minutes earlier, it was annoyingly seductive.
"Nope." you plaster on a smile and grab another mug from the shelf. You pour another cup of coffee knowing good and well Tae absolutely despises coffee. " Want some?" you don't wait for an answer and push a mug of burning hot coffee into his hands, you take yours in hand and smile at him ,gesturing to him to drink it with you. The smile this time was genuine because you knew how much of a brat you were being, forcing him to drink it. He looked worried he knew it was hot and that it was straight black coffee. You laugh to yourself as you both take a sip, your eyes watch his face twist in disgust as he gulps down the brown liquid
"Ahh!" he quickly pulls away and you let out a slight laugh "It's hot!" you almost spit out your coffee you're laughing so much
"Aw do you not like it?" your words are sarcastic but said with a smile, you go back down to the couch and curl back between the back and the arm. The frown that had been most present was sadly returning with the fading of the moment when Tae sat across from you again. He set down his coffee and and looked at you
"Thank- you for the coffee." his English was broken but it always is, you laugh a little because he should know that you know that he doesn't like coffee yet he thanked you for it anyway. 'What now?' you thought to yourself, you take a deep breath and just breathe in the scent of the black coffee you held so close to your face. The steam makes your eyes fog and you tear up, you go to quickly wipe away the false tears but before you could your coffee is taken out of your hands and you're wrapped in a hug. It takes you aback at first but suddenly an overwhelming feeling of love floods you, the warmness of his body radiates through all the blankets and you can smell him not some fake scent or cologne, him, his own human smell and it brings back the comfort you were missing all morning. Your hand glides through his cotton candy like hair as a smile grows on your face. How foolish you were to think that he didn't love you. Tae releases you from the hug and clasps your face
"Are-you ok?" he looked terrified and it scared you,
"Yeah, Taetae I'm ok." you beam and he takes a huge sigh of relief then flings himself against the back of the couch, covering his face with his hands
"Dangsineun areumdaun babo, naneun nappeun iri dangsinege ireonassda saenggak!" You looked at him bewildered, you had yet to learn Korean and had no idea what he said. You laugh nervously
"What did you say?" his night sky eyes gaze into yours with the tilt of his head
"I thought something bad happened to you!" he exclaimed and you giggled
"No, I'm ok." your words didn't match your tone and it showed, Tae leaned in, inches from your face
"Don't - lie." You wondered if you should tell him about what had been bothering you all morning. You decide to go through with it
"Have you been ignoring me?" the intense look on Tae's face softened with confusion
"Ignoring you?"
" I- I mean you've just been in your own little world all morning." you contemplated whether or not he would get what you said but by the look on his face he got the message pretty clearly
"I'm going on tour and I'm not -going to -see you- so I got -you something." as if it was planned that the door bell had rung at the exact moment. Our faces lit up and we hopped over to the door. Tae unlocked it and grabbed the package ,happily. You closed the door around yourself and followed behind Tae to the kitchen
"Don't look." you rolled your eyes and hugged his back to keep from peeking, you could feel the excitement rise through your body as you wonder what it could be
"Taehyung-ah hurry up!" he laughed and you fought the urge to look over his shoulder
"Ok-" You released him from the hug and watched him turn with something in his hands, he had it covered so you opened his hands. You gasp, it was a necklace that read 'Ships in the night' you smile and look back up to Tae
"I'm- writing a song and I want you to -have this." You cover your mouth in shock. You were his only and he was your only. He wanted you to have this song before it became millions of other people's songs. Even though it was a small silver bar with some words ingrained in it, it meant the world.
"Tae, I-I love it." you look back up at him and his face lights up "Thank you."
"I love you, y/n." His low voice ,his puffy face and timing were perfect. The words didn't even need to be said. You knew you loved each other.
" I love you more." you laugh and collide in a hug. When you pulled apart he nervously scratched the back of his neck and then looked up at you with puppy dog eyes,
" Can I kiss you?" You didn't even think about it, in fact he didn't have to ask. Your lips meet with smiles and it's a kiss that has been long waited for. This was your first kiss. You and Tae had previously agreed to take things slow so you had been dating for a couple of months but you're glad he waited for the best moment. The days went by and you and Tae spent every minute together you could, you helped him pack his bags for the tour and even made him a little meal before saying goodbye. The last hug was bitter sweet. You teared up and Tae told you that he'd facetime you every night to make you feel better. The other band members were excited and quickly rushed Tae away from you but you didn't mind. You'd see him every night over facetime and you had a necklace that brought you joy every time you saw it. You were his Ship in the Night and that's really all you needed.
