"The hero work studies are a more serious version of your internships. They entail helping pro agencies on the streets, and investigations. Your teachers and the principal discussed this in the faculty meeting and we all agree," Aizawa said, "its too soon. They should really be canceled."
The whole class exclaimed as they were provided with the notice. Y/N was excited for the work study, but half of her agreed with the teachers too. Too much happened with them involving the villains and at this point it would be normal for everyone to think how they need a break. But, they were studying in U.A. There is sure no doubt in the fact that the students with an ambition to become pro-heroes are itching to improve themselves with any chance they get.
Bakugou got up laughing from his seat as the others complained.
"Just because you wouldn't get to do one," Hagakure said.
Y/N looked at his head and then quickly looked away. She kept going back to the night where they almost...well, atleast she thought that they almost kissed. She kept the promise that she made to herself. Since that day, she sat the farthest from Bakugou and his squad. Talked only when required. And tried her best to not look at him.
A little part of her wanted him to make some kind of effort in talking to him, but it felt like a slap on the face when he went back to his usual behavior and avoided her as if nothing happened the day before. That was the last straw for Y/N. She could be in love with him, but she can only take rejection to some extent. She looked desperate but she couldn't remain spineless and trample on her pride any longer. If anything she learnt pining after Bakugou was there was a certain limit below which pride becomes a matter of self respect. Bakugou had far more pride than anyone she knew, and she knew not to become like him.
"But, some people think that we won't be able to raise strong heroes with that sort of protective outlook. And with that in mind, the compromise is to be selective about participating agencies. So choose one with a proven track record. Otherwise, you won't be taking part."
Y/N was blank on the matter. Sure it would be nice if she could join Aquamarine Agency, but she wondered if she was limiting herself by only training with her quirk. She was able to control her quirk much better than before. Well, she was able to form small water tornados with her hands and eyes open at the moment. It was only a matter of months before she perfected it. Now, Y/N could rely on her quirk now. She believes she's better than before. But she wanted something different this time. It would be way easier to work in an agency compatible with her quirk. What if she went somewhere which hired trainees with different quirks? She wondered how that would work out.
As the class came to an end, she took out her phone and stared at the screen. Oikawa finally contacted her back the way he used to - without formalities. A small smile spread across her face.
Oh, she did miss his usual annoying ass.
"You really made me feel like we can't talk to each other anymore," Y/N sighed, smiling.
"Ah..well, I needed some time to recover," Oikawa spoke on the other end of the call, "Where..are you going by the way?"
"Oh, I am honestly confused. I'm not really sure. What about you?"
"I'm gonna join where you are joining. Can't let you surpass me."
"But I already defeated you."
"Can we pretend like that didn't happen? I just started talking with you."
"Oh," Y/N smirked and teased, "You want to be under me that bad, babyboy?"
"....huh?"
Y/N's eyes widened when she realized how wrong her words sounded. But, she couldn't back out now right? She can just play it off goofy, right?
"That...came out wrong," Y/N said, cursing herself in her mind for struggling to make it funny.
"That's what she said."
"...."
"...."
"Ah...Midoriya is calling everyone. Talk to you later! Bye!" Y/N heard him mutter a quick bye as she turned off the call immediately. Letting out a breath of relief, she walked towards the sofa with a flushed face.
"You found an agency for your work study? Congratulations!" Ochaco said.
"Wait, what the heck you already found one?" Y/N said, "Impressive."
"Thanks guys," Midoriya said.
"Thank you," Tenya said, "You're an example to us all."
"How are the rest of us supposed to compete though," Kaminari said.
"Yeah, you'll be working at Sir Nighteye's agency. That's seriously amazing!" Seto said.
"I wish I had a place picked out. The school said Gunhead hasn't had enough trainees, so his agency is a no go," Ochaco sighed.
"Yeah I kinda get what you mean," Kirishima said, "What about you, Y/N? Aquamarine is pretty good."
"Yeah...but it's not exactly what I'm looking for," Y/N chuckled, "I should probably go for it though. I don't want the seats to be full incase I ended up with none."
"The teachers sure aren't making it easy for us, are they?" Seto said.
Ojiro said, "We can't really blame them. Unlike the internships, we'll be directly involved. So if anything were to go wrong then-"
"-the pros have to take responsibility for whatever happened," Aizawa completed his sentence after entering the room, "Only pros who are the real deal will take on rookies like you guys knowing the risks involved."
Y/N quietly watched him speak with Tokoyami as he informed how Hawks wanted him to join his agency. The next information though came as a surprise to her.
"Also, Kirishima and Y/N, apparently Amajiki from the Big Three wants to talk to you about something," Aizawa said.
Kirishima and Y/N exchanged glances and looked at Aizawa dumbstruck. "I wonder what he wants," Kirishima told looking at her.
"Considering the timing, it could be about the work study program," Tsuyu said.
"I've to wait till tomorrow?" Kirishima groaned and then spoke up, "Nope, I 'm going over to the third years dorm right now."
"Hold on, I'll come too!" Y/N shouted and joined him.
They walked quietly for a while but Kirishima couldn't take the silence any longer and said, "So...I'm guessing the two of you had a fight?"
"Can we please not talk about it?" Y/N whined.
"Honestly, at some point you have to. What...happened? It's like the both of you are ignoring each other," he said.
"Well yeah I am. I can only take so much of his insults. I have...feelings too," Y/N said looking down at her feet.
"Did you...find someone else?"
"What the- no? Why would you think that?!"
"You were pretty red when you went over to Midoriya to talk after that phone call," he said, "I'm sure Bakugou noticed too."
"I don't care," Y/N frowned and ran forward to escape the conversation. It was really getting on her nerves. The moment she starts to forget him, there's always something reminding her of him.
Bakugou on the other hand was really aware of her presence the whole day. It felt like in a room full of people, among the few people who he cared about, she was one of those voices that he heard intently more than ever before. He was way more embarrassed than he would like to admit for his actions that night. Besides, it wasn't like he lied about anything the last day when they talked before he fought Midoriya. There was no need to apologize for speaking the truth.
Right?
