" Sanctuary! Please, give us sanctuary! " Screamed the Romanian woman, banging on the doors of Notre Dame Cathedral with her free hand, whilst her other clutched onto her infant wrapped in cloths. She heard hooves approaching, fast. Her heart sank as fear and panic settled in.
The woman backed away from the Cathedral, heading toward the steps when Judge Claude Frollo caught up with the woman, grabbing a fistful of the cloth. Prying it away from desperate mother who held on. In the matter of mere seconds , Frollo booted the woman in the chest, knocking her backwards onto the steps in a awkward way. The impact had killed the woman.
Claude Frollo glared down at woman before looking down at the bundle of cloth, which was letting out cries for his mother.
''A baby?..'' He questioned, his eyebrows knitting together as he unwrapped the cloth to reveal a baby.
'' A monster!'' He hissed, wrapping the cloth back around the hideous creature. He frantically looked around for a moment before noticing the nearby well, flicking the reins of his horse, His horse moving in a trot toward the well. He held the baby over the well. He hovered the infant over the well..
' ' STOP!'' Cried the Archdeacon.
''This is an unholy demon, I'm sending it back to hell, where it belongs. '' Frollo sneered.
Quickly moving to the steps, He dropped to his knees, picking up the fallen Romanian woman in his arms. '' See, there innocent blood you have spilled on the steps of Notre Dame!''
'' I am guiltless. She ran. I perused. '' Frollo defended.
'' Now you would add this child's blood to your guilt?.. On the steps of Notre Dame? '' questioned the Archdeacon.
''My conscience is clear!'' He spat.
'' You can lie to yourself and your minions. You can claim that you haven't a qualm.'' The Archdeacon replied, furious.
'' But you never can run, from nor hide what you've done from the eyes.'' The archdeacon pointed toward the statues on the cathedral. '' The very eyes of Notre dame!' '
For the one time in his life,
Of power and control,
Judge Claude Frollo felt a twinge of fear for his immortal soul.
'' What must I do?'' Frollo asked, staring up at the statues with wide eyes.
''Care for the child. Raise it as your own'' Said the archdeacon, glancing back to Claude. The archdeacon now carried the deceased woman in his arms, making his way inside the cathedral.
'' What!?.. I am to be saddled with this misshapen- '' Frollo cut himself off, sparing a glance down at the child.
'' Very well, But let him live with you in your church.. ' '
'' Live here? where? '' The archdeacon asked, stopping in his tracks to look back at Frollo quizzically.
''Anywhere,
As long as he's kept locked away where no one else can see..'' Frollo thought for a moment.
'' The bell tower perhaps..and who knows, Our lord works in mysterious ways.'' Frollo looked down at the deformed child wrapped in cloth. '' Maybe even one day this foul creature may prove one day to be of use to me..''
unbeknownst to them..
A young girl, perhaps about 5 or 6 had witnessed the whole encounter, though she was hidden in the shadows of a nearby alleyway with her mother, waiting on her fathers return.
''Chéri. Allez, allons-y. '' A woman emerged from behind the girl, holding an outstretched hand toward the girl . The girl took it, walking off into the shadows yet she never took her eyes away from the spot until she completely disappeared into the shadows.
