I sighed biting my bottom lip, I was waiting for it to just click together.

For someone to yell out, 'Ha we're just playing you son, your mothers alright.'

For someone, hell anyone to jump on my back laughing playfully saying that the t never happened so that people would stop mopping around sobbing loudly as they patted me on the back saying that, 'She was a great person', or that, 'You were just like her strong and independent not showing any fears.'

The truth was, I was panicking inside, I was crumbling, falling into a million pieces because ... what good was a wall without its support?

They were dressed in ash grey as they walked down the hall large hoods covering their face as they walked in unison, a slow steady pace like a turtle taking his time to cross the busy road.

My gaze followed them, society feared them so much that they were nicknamed the Ashes, I use to call them the black snow because they had once turned the snow dark.

"Mathis! Dude your staring."

I turned my head boring my gaze into those of my best friend, a lively freshman named Tom, he smirked knowing he had my full attention. He was a mystery to me his light amber coloured eyes shone with a murderous glint every time he caught me off guard as if threatening to kill me if I didn't pay attention.

And when he did manage to pull me off from my daze his pale face would turn a rosy colour and he would mutter something about school before going back to his paper which would be completely blank.

"Hmm? Is that so," I spoke returning my gaze back to were the Ashes were just standing, "I hadn't realized that, sorry."

"Argh like dude! I don't get how you ace every class you have when all you do is doze off." He said irritated as he quickly copied the answers from my notebook, "Hmm?"

He sighed writing something in cursive and raising his hand, "Yo! I finished."

"Her name is Mrs. Yuki idiot, but I doubt you'll remember that."

Haley Griffen, President of student council biggest blabbermouth in all of tenth grade, usual attire: a plaid skirt with a white wool sweater, small pink glasses, one lip pierce, Bob cut hair.

"Haley." I greeted turning my gaze to the beautiful girl, she rolled her eyes, "Well fuck me side ways and call me Tom, -"Hey!"- if isn't Mr. Popular."

I nod my lips forming a tight line as my jaw set a bile retort resting on the tip of my tongue, Tom sat between us watching awkwardly as he lowered his hand, "We're all friends here ... right?"

"Thomas shut the hell up, I think I saw one of your toys waiting out in the hallway for you."

"He-hey."

"I don't see why your even over here Griffin? Lost your way to the ladies room?" I spat out a blaze forming in my eyes as she snorted, "Says the one who lost his Mother to the fates."

I grew still at that and Haley, realizing her mistake, clamped a hand over her mouth, "M-mathis I'm so sorry."

"Umm, Haley maybe you should return to your seat." Tom whispered glancing at my frozen state she didn't respond bowing her head she left to take her seat next to Mrs. Yuki.

I put my head down on the desk blue eyes turning dull as I remembered my Mothers life being taken from her on front of my very eyes.

How long has it been?

A day?

A week?

A month?

Everything seems to be going slow since she died ... I've seemed to have been ... lost in the shadows.
