Chapter 1

“Pain, if you think about it, pain itself isn’t real, the damage that causes the pain is, and the feeling of pain is, but pain is just your brain trying to get you away from the danger, so therefore that means that you, in the sense of your body, create pain, and that means you can take damage and not feel pain if you can control. The conclusion of this lesson is no matter what happens to you, you are your own worst enemy" I said at the front of a lecture theatre. Then a bell goes off “does that make sense class"

“Yes professor *highly intense static*” sings the class.

“Please, like I said, call me *more static*. I’m not like your other professor's; I find that you're more likely to work harder for someone that there is no real divide between. anyway, you're dismissed” I shout to make sure the back can hear me. The class all stood up “also don’t forget to do the research I told you about, it’s not mandatory it’s just it will help you next lecture” I shouted as they all walked out the back of the lecture theatre, my vision went white.

I woke up with the sound of waves crashing and the scorching hot sand all over my body and face. I dug my hands into the hot sand and pushed myself upright, as I realised that I was face down in the sand. I try to stand up, but my legs fail me as I fall flat on my back into the hot sand, I look down to see cuts, bruises and red marks all over my body. I don’t remember getting them. Actually, I don’t remember anything. I look down at a body I do not recognise, to see if there are any clues to how I got my wounds but as I look down, I realise a very important detail that I missed.

I was naked.

“WHY AM I NAKED!” I screamed as loud as I could, I heard birds flee the trees at the volume of my voice.

After I calmed down, I had a look around to see that I’m all alone, only a few trees, no-one was here. The palm trees sway happily in the breeze, and a brown trench coat is hanging on a low branch.

I slipped it on and did up the belt, it was a surprisingly good fit like it was made for me. As I put my hands in the pockets I felt something cold and metallic, I pulled it out to find a silver pocket watch.

It was one that clearly belonged to a sailor, maybe even a captain. I opened it up to see if it was still working, the time was 1.30, and because the sun was up it was in the afternoon. On the inside of the lid is the name ‘Athena’ “Athena, hum, Athena, I like it, it should give me an identity until I can make contact with civilisation” I said to myself, it’s really starting to bug me that I can’t remember my name.

I started to walk around aimlessly as I thought about my situation. It’s not the best, I am on an island in the middle of nowhere, with no way to call for help, no shelter and no recourse. I was so lost in thought that I did not see the grey giant I was walking to, until I felt the waves crash against my feet. I look up to see the grey giant.

“What is this?" I ask no-one in particular. I take a good look at it taking in its size, it has a ship, a badly damaged one, but still a ship. Then I see the two gigantic guns on the front. It was a war ship. Maybe it’s my ticket off this island. I see a plank of wood leading from the sand to the deck off the warship.

*crash*

I heard the sky groan in anger. I look around to see a storm coming in. “I do not want to be caught out in that" I said as I walked up the plank and into the ship. The ship's insides were a minefield, bits of metal littered the floor or blocked off doorways, some doorways were clasped in on themselves. One of the bulkheads was blown apart and severely reduced the structural integrity... why do I know this but not my name, “what happened to me" I screamed, still no-one was around to hear me scream there was a giant hole that looked like an ap shell went here... why do I know that, it doesn’t sound like something a normal person would know.

“Who am I?" I screamed again, I don’t know what I was hoping for, maybe someone to answer my questions, maybe to be able to remember. In truth the latter choice would be better, but alas their only response I got was the ship creaking and the thunder clapping overhead. This is driving me crazy. I have so many answers and no-one to answer them if the lack of food doesn’t kill me the questions will.

I stumble my way to the bridge. Console had wires sticking out of them and some parts were even missing. This ship looks like it’s been through hell. Maybe it has. Maybe it is a sign from god... nah... God don’t exist, why else would he leave me hear with no memories, unless he is an asshole that decided to fuck with my life. Then he is not worth my time.

*yawn*

I pulled out the pocket watch to check the time. It is 10.15. “Looks like it’s time to go and find somewhere to sleep. I turn around and head out the door. And I kept walking until the hallway ended because of the derby. I looked to my left to find a bulkhead in pretty good condition. I looked above it to find a nameplate that read.

‘Capitan Athena’s’

      ‘Quarters’

Well, the person this jacket belonged to was probably the captain. I thought as I opened the door and walked in. The room was a big mess. Paper's litter the floor, and the covers and pillows were dotted all around the room.

*yawn*

Ahh I’m so tired I am sure I could fall asleep standing up. But this room is such a mess, that I decided to tidy up. Dad once said ‘daughters take pride in every little thing you do, then when it comes to take pride in the important things it becomes second nature. Also, if you take pride in it, it becomes more joyful when you complete it.’ I could not put a face, nor a voice, to the man in question. But I remember him saying that. So, I got to work.

---Thirty minutes later---

Despite my tiredness I managed to tidy up the whole room. man, that felt good, and my work has paid off, I have even managed to find the captain’s logbook. It’s a black leather book with a red string around it. I undid the string and decided the best course of action would be to read the last page.

1943 June 6th 18.30

The admiral has ordered us to attack a fleet. A HOLE FUCKING FLEET. Just one ship and they have 2 battleships, 3 destroyers and 1 aircraft carrier. We’re about to commence an attack. When it works,I’ll have to take this up with high command and get them right. None of my friend should have to die to stop this war, not if I can help it

1943 June 6th 19.00

We have managed to sink most of the fleet just a badly crippled aircraft carrier and were out of shells and torpedoes. I’ve lost most of the crew, only me and Tom remain and we're going to ram the bastards into the locker. I wish whoever is reading this will tell the story of the blood blade and her brave crew and we fought past the Last shell.

This explains why the ship is damaged and looks like this. But now I am more determined to find
people, this is obviously something that needs to go down in history.

*yawn*

It is time to tap out, I crawl into bed for a well-earned sleep.
