When the blood on his sheets dripped below the bed, he knew that he wouldn't be able to hide the dagger because as the blood dripped below the long wooden panels and the body of the creature lay tarnished in his birth. A tear slipped from his cheek to the cold stone floor the supposed pureness of it mixed with the death of a living creature's lifeline. The loud pounding on the door muffled by not only the thick steel door but by the quiet pleas made by the creature before their death ringing in his ears still. The door was shut tight, locked with padlocks not to keep him in but to keep them out. Taking a deep breath, he allowed his long dagger find the drapes to his left taring the fabric from the cool tiled walls and throwing it over the body, covering the unblinking eyes that would surely haunt him in days to come. The boy sheathed his dagger wiping the blood on his hand on the back of his pants and made his way to the door not leading to the mob but to the castle pushing his hand across his face to remove the remaining tears because royalty would not be seen crying for the dead and walked back into the once loving home of his to face another agonizing day.
Head up, you will rule no matter the cost.

He awoke from the nightmare, his shirt soaked with cold sweat, the light was filtering through the window, shining in his room with a soft glow. He pushed back the covers and climbed out of bed. His tousled blond hair plastered against his forehead as he paced around his room.
It's not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. It's not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. Not real. I'm safe, Lizzy's safe, Mom's safe.
His hands were shaking less now, and he managed to open his curtains to look out to the landscape in front of him. The view was breathtaking, the neatly clipped bushes, roses, daisies, lilies, dotted the courtyard. He took a deep breath and moved to his desk where a stack of fresh paper and sharp pencils lay at his wake. When the soft damp skin of his hand touched the cool smooth feeling of the pencil, he felt his body relax. As he started to lightly sketch out his dream which had been horrifying beyond belief, he let his mind wander to the faraway places only found in books. Smooth open meadows, silence, as he breathed in the smell of spring of flower, rain, and freshly mowed grass. His thoughts turned black. Screaming filled his ears pounding in his head he grabbed his hair digging his fingers into the skin of his scalp. His bones felt like fire burning through his skin but when he looked down, he was fine, it was fine.
Not real, not real, not real.
He heard a faint pounding on the door, but all the pain seemed to override his system, he couldn't move, couldn't breathe. He heard a blood-curtailing scream coming from somewhere or was it coming from him? All he knew was this, all he could do was sit in this chair with the pencil long forgotten on the desk to the right of him. Then there were walls, walls erupting from the floor, encasing him, trapping him. He tried to scream but his mouth didn't work.
He was going to die here He thought
Die with his father. Would his family mourn him as they did along with the rest of his kingdom for his dad? Or would they simply forget because not many people had met the so-called insane prince? His mother would forget him with her cold eyes long sucked of happiness at the dead body of her husband. She would drag Lizzy away by the wrist snapping at his brother to follow her. His sister would scream and kick but eventually, she would forget, everyone would forget him eventually because no matter how he tried he would never be the person they wanted.
Tears ran down his face as he sat on the floor, curled in a ball shaking, minutes ago the pounding had stopped but now but the sound of the door swinging open and suddenly arms were engulfing him a flash of dark hair meeting his vision. The walls fell away as she hugged him, her beautiful eyes watching him with concern, her tender heart full of love warming his in the way only she could. There were no more walls or pain, only the feeling of his sister's arms around him and the faint tickle of her hair on his chin.
"Breath Newt" He heard her say quietly in his ear "breathe"
He only hugged her tighter, the sobs coming in quick gasps as his body tried to regain control of his breathing. Her skin was soft against his body, her darker hair still messy from sleep. He wondered if she had been able to get more sleep, but the bags under her eyes confirmed his fear. Guilt filled his mind, she had important things to do, and he was getting in the way of her life.
"Sorry," He tried to say "I shouldn't ha-"
"Stop" She interrupted hardly "Don't blame yourself you can't control it"
"But I could ha-" he said again
"Newt," she said her face completely serious now "Stop"
Newt closed his mouth knowing he wouldn't win this one, which wasn't new. He rarely won any arguments since he was young since he became like this crazy and broken the cursed prince. He looked deep into his sister's eyes color mirroring his but instead of the broken teetering on insanity people said were in his eyes hers reminded him of snowflakes gentle, soft, and unique while still being cold and strong. The similarities of them stopped there while Newt had wavy light hair and tanned skin Lizzy was pale with darker hair almost brown.
Newt had always been close with Lizzy, her only being a few years younger than him and the main protector from his mother's rage when his older brother was off doing other things and his father was long gone. He barely remembered his father except some distant memories still fuzzy and unclear like a dream which of course it may as well be. Lizzy pulled him closer, he felt warm and safe when he breathed in the lavender scent of her shampoo, he felt more at home than even the scent of his own bed.
"Hey," his sister said breaking the long-standing silence "Do you want to go get some breakfast, and maybe we can talk?"
Her voice was soft and not at all demanding, it's one of the things Newt loved about her she would sit here with him until she died if she felt Newt needed it. The sunlight now streamed through his window and his stomach let out a quiet mummer of hunger.
"Sure" He responded his voice still horse from all the screaming he did earlier, " Su-Sure let's go."
He allowed his sister to help him up before making his way to his door. As he pushed past the heavy wooden door and the sounds of the bustling palace filled his ears.
Ok, He thought to himself You got this.
