Don't Trust Kindness

It was an average Tuesday. School starting as usual. And myself being known as a teacher's pet. I wasn't actually like that, I just got some extra help and did what I could to aid the staff. It was just my nature.

Eight am came rather quickly, along with my first class. I stared intently at the board. Following the subject, Science had been first that day. I occasionally raised my hand to ask a question, or answer one. I was praised when right, and guided when wrong. All normal behavior. A normal day.

The sun shone brightly outside, not a cloud in sight. It stayed that way. I sat through each and every class. Always interactive. Trying my best.

Though my teachers offered their aid as often as possible. That is an important factor. Remember it.

At the end of every class, homework was handed out. I have to admit, my school was damn good. Only one page of homework, or a small assignment. And the staff was attentive to the students. All of this is important. Again, remember it.

Lunch soon came. And I found a spot at the table with my friends. A smile on my face as I sat down. As usual, I was greeted by Lucas and Nadia first. A cheerful couple within our group. They had been together for years. I admired them..They were fantastic with their communication and trust.

"Let's get a head start on homework. I'd rather not have a ton of shit to do later." Our more gloomy friend, Daniela, spoke up. Pulling out her books. She was intelligent as ever though. Gave her own advice and knowledge to us.
We only had a friend group of six. There was Lucas, Nadia, Daniela, Marcqas, Marion, and myself. Every person played a part, though.

Everyone pulled out their books and began what assignments we gathered. Every person reaching out a hand to help where it was needed. And we sat like that, eating lunch, doing homework... All normal routine.

"We still on for the movie later?" Marqcas finally spoke. "I hear that one we looked into is really cool."

"I just have to ask my mom if I can carpool you guys or not." Dani added to the conversation, "She'll probably say yes though! You guys can come for dinner too." She spoke.

We all agreed that it sounded like a good plan. We'd meet at Daniela's for dinner, head out at seven, and everyone would be home by ten at the latest. The school bell rang a few minutes after we had finished up. We threw our trash away, and went on to our respective classes.

I went ahead and sat down in World History. This class was easy for me. But I still wasn't the best. I struggled with certain topics.

Ms. Dana was an amazing teacher. Happy, helpful, and always making a lesson enjoyable. She didn't even let us call her by last name.
As I worked on the assignment, she approached and offered a smile, "Would you have about a half hour to come see me at the end of the day? I noticed you are having some trouble with this one."

I looked up to meet her kind expression. Her shimmering green eyes always held a pure sense of who she presented as. I gave a nod to her question, "Yeah..I just have to be home by four thirty. I'm sure I'll have plenty of time, though." I assured her.

She nodded. Standing and patting my shoulder. A common thing for her, encouragement in a kind notion.
It wasn't uncommon for teachers to pull kids from classes or to ask them to stay for a short time so they could offer some tutoring. That's why it didn't come across as very odd when Ms. Dana offered.
Before I knew it, class finished up. Then three more classes passed. The bell rang to signal end of day. Mr. Hadin released us and sent us off. He hated holding people up.

Students rushed to meet their parents or drive themselves home. As for myself, I started toward room 231, Ms. Dana's classroom. I entered within a few minutes and smiled. "Hey, so what did you wanna go over?" I approached. And she quickly lifted a few pages.
"Just this. It's not a lot, I promise. Just a study guide. There's a test coming soon and it's a good portion of your grade. So I want to go over the material to prep you."
