I could not believe him. I mean how stupid could he be? Trusting her was a mistake, and I was planning on finding a way to take her down; even if it meant betraying my friends. They would have to understand in the long term this is what was best for them. This is what was best for all of us.

That night I dreamt about the night my father died for the millionth night. But at least this time I understood more. I was fourteen and it was a night that I will never forget.

I climbed up the tree next to my bedroom window. My parents didn't know that I snuck away to Ashton's house to hang out with him. I was sure not going to let them figure it out. I slid open my window and jumped inside. I had made it, or so I thought. I heard arguing downstairs. My parents thought Ryder and I were asleep, there was no way they would be this loud. I snuck out of my room and attempted to get into Ryder's, only to find it locked from the inside. I shrug it off as I quietly make my way downstairs. As I came closer to the source of the yelling, it became clearer.

"You have no right to be here," I hear my mom say.

"Oh, but I have every right," a man croons. I move closer to see if I can make out who it is. "You have something I want," he continues. "Tell me where the hybrid is."

"She doesn't have to tell you anything," my father says. I try to look around the corner, but just as I do I hear rustling and my father yelling for my mom to run, and so she does, right into me. I remember the look on her face like it happened yesterday, she was horrified. I had never seen her look like that before, she looked like she was about to break down crying. She didn't though, instead she stayed strong. She grabbed my arm and dragged me into a closet. I was about to whimper in fear, when my mom clamps her hand over my mouth. Now I knew why Ryder's room was locked. I heard a sickening crunch outside the door, and the next thing I knew I was crying. What was going to happen to my father, I wondered. Of course, now I know.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are," the man cackled. My mother silenced me. "Not going to say anything," he said. "Fine, than you can say good-bye to you precious husband." There was a loud thud as I could sense my father's body falling to the floor. My mother closed her eyes, holding me close. We sat in the closet the rest of the night, eventually falling asleep. When we woke up everything was silent. My mom left me in the closet and slowly exited, except she stopped dead when she looked out the door. I feel myself begin to cry again, the man was still out there, my mother and I were going to die.

My mother quickly turned to me, "M," she said in a tone of voice she had never used before. "I need you to be strong. What you are about to see I would have never wished upon you. I am so, so sorry." I look past her and on the floor I see my father's crippled dead body. His limbs bent at angles I had never seen, and his neck snapped. I begin to sob. My mother continued, "Mia, you can't tell anyone about this. Not Ashton, or his family, not even Ryder. If anyone asks your father died of a heart attack." I never understood why my mother told me this, so I just nodded. I never understood until now.

After that night I never told anyone about my father's murder. We never filed a police report and we just seemed to go on with our normal lives. No one knows the truth. But now I know that if I want them on my side, I had to tell them. I had to tell them that my father was murdered by a fallen angel looking for a certain hybrid, a certain hybrid named Hayden.
