Present time

"Are you sure he's in there?"

Lucas gives me a single nod.

Shit. I can't shake this feeling that something is wrong.

Theodin most likely knows I'm coming to kill him, I would be disappointed if he didn't lay out a trap or two for me, the Theodin I remember would do anything to get what he wants, and what he wants most is revenge for the death of his mate.

"Kane are you sure about this?" Lucas asks, looking warily at the ring on my finger.

I growl out lowly and keep my eyes on the building far out in front of me. "He will die tonight." Mark my words, I will fucking kill him for what he has done.

He's a fucking coward, hiding behind creatures willing to do anything for their 'master' yet he never gets his fucking hands dirty.

I hate worthless men such as himself, never lifting a finger, expecting others to do it for you.

He wanted to use me all those years ago, to take the throne and rise to power with him by my side, I saw it then what he wanted, the greed was clouding his thoughts then and it hasn't changed since then.

He's still chasing after the same dream, but he can't have it until he kills me and my whole family, but it's pointless, he would lose a thousand times over without a single hope, my bloodline is too strong for him alone.

His death is inevitable, so why is he doing this?

It doesn't make sense, even after all this time, it's so pointless.

'Move out, kill anything that moves, leave Theodin to me.' I mindlink to the five wolves with me, including Lucas.

I brought the best of the best with me tonight, I don't want any mistakes or fuckups, this ends tonight.

We split once we enter through the compost of the building, it's crumbling around us and the smell is overwhelming of magic, like gunpowder with a strong scent of dust, it tickles my nose as I keep myself hidden amongst the shadows of the corners.

Using my wolf vision, I can see exactly where the traps are, scent alone is useless when it comes to magic, but I'm half demon, if it was not for that fact I would've alerted Theodin of my presence the moment I came twenty feet within the building.

Once my team has confirmed the three floors of the warehouse are clear of enemies, I give the order for three of the wolves that came with me to remain on the floors while I search for the basement with Lucas.

'Can you smell that?' Lucas cringes out through mindlink.

Once we enter a hallway, no doubt leading us to the basement, there's a stench that I haven't smelled in a century.

The smell of rotting corpses, with fresh dead bodies. The scent is overwhelming the closer we get to the basement, we head straight to the basement door, and both halt when we start to hear voices and movement.

'Someones down there, what's the plan?' Lucas asks as we stay hidden in the shadows.

Closing my eyes I sniff the air to see how many are down there, when I'm confident with the scents, I open my eyes move away from the shadows, gaining a look of confusion and concern from Lucas as I hold my hand up to him.

'Stay here, guard the door, nothing comes in or goes, got it?'

Before he could answer me back, a voice speaks out in the darkness, making my wolf and Lucas's stand on high alert.
