Ok so my thoughts on how PineClan came to be are very simple. Way back in Firestar's Quest and SkyClan's Destiny it showed the last of the Ancient SkyClan cats separating, Honeyleaf and Swallowflight leaving together. That is where I change the canon of the series. Some other cats follow Honeyleaf and Swallowflight to make a new Clan that will never fall to lowly rats.
Honeyleaf prays to StarClan to make a new Clan, one that is very similar to SkyClan. StarClan allows this and had her go to a small cluster of pine trees and a big, hollow one that became the camp. When she went to sleep that night, StarClan visited her and made her a Clan leader. Swallowflight didn't really want to be deputy, and had no known apprentice, so a cat I made up (Thornbriar) became deputy and eventually, as the moons went on, Swallowflight retired to the elder's den. (And Honeystar will too shhhhhh)
