I am so nervous about going to my new school. God, help me so that I don't mess up my first day of school.
My little brother is still eating while I am putting on my shoes. I shouted to my family who are in the kitchen. "Ma, I'll get going because I don't want to be late on my first day." Even my elder sister is about to come with me, but father stopped us by saying, "Wait, dear, Your brother is almost done getting ready, and if you guys miss the bus, I can always drop."
I was not impressed with this. I don't want to look like an odd one who missed the bus, and it also attracts attention to myself. I am not an introvert, but I don't want to attract unwanted attention to myself. Still, I waited, and as expected, we missed the bus and were also late for school.
I dropped my brother, Mikael, off at his class, as it was his first day in the L.K.G. classroom. Then, I went in search of my own classroom, which was for the 7th standard.
I was late and, seeing sir already present in the class, I asked, "Shall I come in, sir?"
"It's the first day, and you're already late," he questioned.
"Sorry, sir. I had to drop my younger brother off at his class, as it's his first day too," I replied.
"Come in, but remember, next time you will not be allowed into the class."
"Thank you, sir." The class was full except for a few seats, so I sat in the second-to-last bench.
I guess Scar must be on time, as I was the one who dropped Mikael off.
"Alright, class, listen carefully, because I don't repeat myself. My name is Jacob, and I will be teaching English. I am also your class teacher; therefore, English will be the first subject every day.
"I detest tardiness, and I dislike children who don't listen or don't complete their work on time. The punishment for any of these offenses will be with this," he said, showing us a thick wooden stick, likely from a nearby tree, as our school is surrounded by trees.
"Let's get to know all of you better. Start from the last bench," he said, pointing behind me.
I turned back, only to see no one behind me. I widened my eyes, realizing he was pointing at me, and I stood up.
"You should state your name, hobbies, favorite subject, and what you aspire to be," he continued.
We all nodded our heads, and I started by saying, "My name is Lillian, and my favorite subject is mathematics."
"Really? My wife, Camille, will teach math for you all. You will all meet her in the third period," he said.
I nodded my head and continued my introduction. "My hobbies are dancing and playing all kinds of sports. I aspire to be a mathematician," I concluded and sat down.
He nodded and turned his head to the right, indicating that the next person should continue.
Oh my god, why did I sit so far back? I am so dumb, I should have searched for another empty seat in between; the back ones are always trouble.
"I should probably assign fixed seats to all of you and mix up the girls and boys to reduce the noise pollution in this class." With that, the teacher began rearranging the students' places. I was placed in the middle row with two boys beside me. Since our class has fewer girls than boys, all the girls were placed between two boys. Damn, this makes me even more nervous than I already was.
"Hey, I'm John," said the boy to my left, and with a smile, I replied "I'm Lilly". I noticed that he had his hair dyed a light gold color at the tips.
The whole class is filled with awkward silence, except for the asking and sharing of stationery. The teacher was happy with the outcome and started talking again.
"You should all learn five new words from the dictionary and copy them into your notebooks five times each. We should also buy an additional book for practicing grammar. Every day, one student should write their chosen five words on the board, and the whole class should copy them, and so on. We will go according to the roll number. I will also randomly pick students and ask for any meaning in between my classes."
The classes were good, but I am sad as I didn't get to make any new friends. These starting days are the prime time for making friends; otherwise, I will be left alone without any friends.

"Kids, come to the kitchen. I heated milk for you guys," shouted Mom from the kitchen.
We all started running into the kitchen. Scar reached first and opened the cupboard, but before she could grab anything, I took hold of my favorite biscuits. Sadly, that was exactly what she wanted. "Lily, I was here first," she said, and she tried to snatch it from my hands.
"Yeah, but I touched the packet first."
"Give it to me."
"No way. Mom, look at her. I took it first, but she's trying to snatch it from me."
"Both of you, stop fighting and give it to me. You guys should eat healthy food. I'll give three biscuits to each of you."
"But, Ma-" I started to protest while Scar started grinning.
"It's final," she said.
"It's all because of you," I said and angrily took my share of the biscuits and milk and went into the living room to switch the channel to Cartoon Network.
"Why did you change it? The movie is about to end," she started arguing.
"Your time is up. You've been watching it for the past hour. Now, Michael, I will watch cartoons," I said.
"Yeah, I want to watch cartoons," he said excitedly. While Mom was bringing both his milk and Mom's coffee cups.
"Mom, I don't like St. Berg High School. There are only nine students in my class," she started, and I was shocked to hear it. There were so many students in my class, while there are only nine students in the ninth standard. Whatever, I don't care.
"But I like this school and my class. I don't want to change. You can just change her school, don't make us change too. I am more than satisfied as we have around 33 students, not less, not more, just enough in my eyes," I said to Mom.
Because I don't like overly crowded classrooms that will just relegate me to the background, but not too few, like in her class where that will thrust me into the limelight, I am perfectly in the middle and I am satisfied with that.
"Is it? That really is a bad situation. Maybe a lot of students might be absent as it's the first day of school, so let's see for a few more days. Anyway, I will also have a talk with your dad and ask him to look for a different school, just in case," she replied.
"Thanks, ma," she said, smiling happily.
"We already knew that this was a newly established school before enrolling," I said.
"Yeah, but nine is too small a strength to even be considered a class. We were sitting one to a bench, couldn't talk at all, and the teachers kept focusing more on us as there were fewer students. They are too strict," she said.
"Ha! See, ma, that's her problem—not the number of students, but that they are focusing more on her," I said.
"Stop fighting. Your father and I will decide, not you guys, so just watch your TV," she said.
Edit ----
Then the debate went on for sometime and after just 2 - 3 days she shifted to new school whereas both me and our lil brother stayed in this school itself.
Slowly everyone started making friends and the class became less awkward, both the boys and girls became comfortable with their respective places and slowly conversations grew.
During lunch, both Carol and Joey teachers said that I seem to be good in studies and should not become like Natasha, who seemed good at first and slowly went behind in her studies, I awkwardly smiled and went to sit in my place. Natasha felt embarrassed about this. That's how Natasha and I became friends or maybe she approached me I don't really know.
