TW: BURNING!

She felt the soft grass underneath her, twirling it in between her fingers. Her mind was still on the brink of sleep as the sunlight bore into her face. “Five more minutes…” she mumbled and turned over, continuing to fidget with the grass.

Grass. Wait. Grass?

Grass!

The girl shot upward, sitting on the ground. She frantically looked around, taking in her surroundings. She was in a clearing in the middle of a thin woods. The trees weren’t particularly new, but didn’t seem to be dying yet, stating it was summer. Green sprouted everywhere like it was painted.

The girl tried to remember where she was. Nothing. Maybe what she was doing that day? Nothing. Who she was?! Nothing.

She still remembered normal things like how to walk and that houses were used for living. But she couldn’t remember anything about herself or how she got there. Nothing about her life.

The girl tried to remain calm and sensible. There had to be a reasonable explanation for this. First she would check her surroundings. The girl walked up to a tree, felt in under her fingers, and broke off a piece. Real wood. Then she checked herself. She looked down and self-assessed.

Her hand was translucent! Now that she thought about it- her whole body was too, even her clothes. Her hair was bronze brown and flowed to her waist level, and somehow slightly defied gravity. It was also tinted grey, almost all the color had been sucked out of it. She was wearing a white collared dress shirt with a black sweater overtop, tucked in to light yellow skinny jeans with black high tops. But the thing that was the most disturbing was her ghastly light gray skin, almost white.

The girl stumbled backwards, almost afraid of herself. What happened to her? Why was she like this? She stopped, closed her eyes, and breathed slowly. She was able to overcome the panic that had poured over her.

She realized she had pockets in her jeans and checked them for useful items. The girl pulled out a folded up piece of paper, no biggerthan a notebook page. It had one word written on it.

“Haven”

The girl blinked, pinched herself, and stared at the paper. Haven? Like a safe haven? No, that didn’t feel right. The word made something of a memory resurface in her mind. Somebody, a woman’s voice, called out that name. Haven. It was murky and quiet, but it was there, just for a split second.

The girl decided that that would be her name. She would call herself Haven. But this all made no sense, why was she here? This must have been all be some sort science experiment. She was being tested on for being translucent and having gray skin. Yeah, that made the most sense. And this was just a part of it.

Haven started walking though the forest in hopes of finding civilization. As she walked she dug her foot into the ground every so often, leaving a trail in case she needed to come back. Judging by the sun’s position in the sky it was early morning so she would have all day before she needed to set up camp. But one thing kept gnawing at her from the back of her mind, threatening to creep up and invade her head. What if she couldn’t find water?

Haven pushed those thoughts down and continued to walk. She trotted through the forest for another two hours or so before she came across what looked like a town in the distance. But it had thick blackstone walls around a small portion of it, which made Haven cautious as she approached it. She found a think tall tree and climbed to the top, siting on a branch that draped over the inside.

It was a small village with a white van and a few trees. It also had a couple huts scattered around, only three or four(AN: for the sake of the story there will be houses in l'manburg and it'll be bigger than the original one). A pond rested in the corner, right underneath Haven’s tree.

She braces herself for the icy impact of the water and slid off her branch, aiming for the water. Haven landed with a slash, but thankfully went feet first. Immediately she was overcome with a sense of pure pain. It ripped her apart, devoured her like a hungry animal.

Haven had the senses not to scream and get hurt even worse. She agonizingly got out of the water and physically shook the water and the pain off. Haven looked down and saw that her body had become almost transparent and it was melting apart. Haven screamed and ran to one of the houses, banging on the door for help. She didn’t know what was happening or why she was finally letting panic overcome her. Maybe it was the pure agony she felt after her body made contact with that water. But she continued to scream for help when two arms wrapped around her neck, closing off her breath.

(AN: short chapters, lots of lore, welcome to my book ;) don't worry, the beginning will be real chaotic, but it'll get more mellow as the story progresses)
