Haven stared back in shock. Something about Niki’s demeanor told her that she wasn’t lying. “W-what…?” she stumbled out.

“Look, I know it’s a lot to take in, and I’ll be here every step of the way. But I’ve heard stories, read books, and everything you’re describing sound exactly the same as a ghost. Like your memories: the more happy your life was the more you can remember. So that means…”

Haven tried to find a reason not to believe her. She desperately didn’t want to be dead. But everything made sense, the translucentness, the eyes, it all seemed like ghost things. Haven realized she had beenhyperventilating and slowed her breath by counting them. Eventually she had calmed down and was ready to talk.

“Let’s not dwell on the past then. Could you introduce me to the other people here and explain why you want to rebel against this Dream person?”

“Of course! [insert reason here]"(AN: honestly I have no idea why l'manburg rebelled against the green boy-)

Niki explained all that so passionately, but something felt off. Haven couldn’t pinpoint it, but she didn’t feel very enthusiastic about waging a war against this person. But she could tell he meant no good, so she didn’t further pry.

“Alright, that makes sense. Now could you show me around camp?”

Niki took Haven all around L’manburg, and they met many new people along the way, all from a bee loving boy with ram horns to a fox furry with a hat. Haven didn’t know how that was possible, but in a world where ghosts couldn’t touch water, almost anything made sense.

All the while, Haven wanted to explore outside of the walls. When the tour was completed, she asked Niki if she could take a walk to clear her head. Niki of course accepted the request and Haven left L’manburg.

The outside world was… chaotic to say the least. Many random buildings, signs in the sky, or just singular blocks dotted the plains, and a wooden path labeled “the prime path” ran straight through the middle. Haven didn’t know what in the world “primes” were, but walked on the oak anyway.

A bit further down the path she spotted a man with fluffy brown hair and a L’manburg uniform like the rest of them. Haven walked up to him to say hello, but when she did, he immediately started apologizing for something.

“Look, I’m so so sorry, I was having a terribly stressful day and had just ran into dream and L’manburg was crumbling and everything was going wrong and seeing you made me snap please forgive me I meant no harm-“

Haven stopped in her tracks. She recognized that voice. “I-I-I…” was all that she could spit out before sprinting off in the other direction. She thought she heard him call for her to come back, but it was drowned out by the ringing in her ears that had formed. Things started to blur and her breathing quickened. She started running even faster, not caring where she was going.

Haven’s world was spinning when she ran into somebody. Everything was too blurry too see right from the tears, but she could make out a bit of black and white. Haven was about to start running again when the figure wrapped their arms around her.

“Listen to me. You’re going to be okay. I promise. I don’t know what or who hurt you, but I will never let them do so again. Match your breathing to mine. In, two… three… four… out, two… three… four…”
