Chapter 4: Isabelle

     "Kyle! Kyle! Wake up!" A girl knelt over the corpse of a fallen warrior. She shook the body before her, terrified of what the future may hold, how she would crumble without the strength of her brother.

     "You can't die! We need you!" The floor began to fill with puddles from the rain of the sky and the tears of the sadness she held. "You're too important to us all, too important to me." The sky began to fill with clouds, streaking the black lines of the night above her.

     Knowing the power of a mage, she knew she could bring him back. She soon returned to her dorm room, stationed at the centre of the lead school of magic, Darkwood Academy. Her room was filled with books and trinkets of every kind, becoming nearly unnavigable.

    She trudged through the sea of books that filled the floor, until reaching the singular window on the back of the room. Her knees hit the floor, as she began to sweep the books away with her arms.

     She pulled a knife from her cloak, slitting the palm of her left hand, the blood spilling on the floor before her. It began to reform, constructing a circular shape, accompanied by a star centering it. "It's ready..." her voice began to tremble as she spoke the words of rune. A hand rose from the shape drawn on the floor, it began to reach, pulling the rest of the body forwards.

     She began to cry, the tears now embodying the happiness she had lost, rather than the pain that had brought her here. "I thought I lost you! But here you are, here to save me as you always have." As the body finally rose from the ground, there was nothing but a husk, the soul of a once righteous warrior, now crumbling in the hollow shell of a being.
