Do all cats hate Water?

The simple answer is no.  Some cats will put up with taking a bath, others turn from the most loving adorable kitty into some sort of fighting ninja from hell and yet others you will struggle to keep away from the taps and hose pipes.

The reason why? Basically - every cat is different.

In fairness the type of hair can help a little, some types of coats are better at repelling water than others, but it really is up to the kitty's personality.

You can help if you try and accustome your cat to water from an early age.

Try playing with water, tip a little onto their paws, let them play with a tap or hose pipe or sprinkler.

Make sure they start off not fearing water but playing with it.

When you are ready to give kitty her first bath, prepare everything before hand.  Make sure the water is warm, the soap you are using is especially formulated for kittens/cats and when you use it try not to get the soap in her eyes. If you can find natural or organic soaps even better.

Have some towels ready to rub her dry afterwards.

When everything is ready then gently pick her up, petting and speaking to her and gently lower her into the water.  Make sure her head is kept above the water line. Holding her firmly, gently dribble the water down her back, petting and rubbing her.  As long as the experience is calming and gentle, each bath will be better.

Of course, as I pointed out at the start, there are some cats that really, truly hate water and no matter what you do they will continue to hate it!
