The Light

Lance was confused.

The only thing going through his mind was utter befuddlement, perplexity, bewilderment. There are so many different names for the same word: confusion. He couldn't process what was happening anymore. His mind had escaped from his head at that moment.

That moment.

The moment where everything he knew, everything he loved, everything he couldn't live without, got struck down.

The THUD of the body hitting the floor would haunt his dreams for years to come. He rushed over as fast as he could, feet flying inches above the ground.

"Keith! What happened? Where did you get hit?"

Keith grunted. He was having trouble breathing, and could barely say a word. He tried his best to force himself to appear as if he was fine, as if he wasn't in excruciating pain.

"Lance... I'm sorry," Keith whispered. "I love you so much. I'm sorry it had to end this way." Those were the last words Keith could croak out before the light faded from his eyes. That intelligent light that was curious of everything around, the one that glinted determinedly whenever a Galra fleet showed up. The happy light that shone in his eyes when he came back to Earth.

It was gone, never to be seen again.
