Just Saying

"I know that is the easiest solution but..." Yaoyorozu trails off again, and shakes her head.

"It's not that easy." (Y/n) finishes for her.

"Everything is just too complicated. With my parents, our friends, everyone at school. And my future." Her facial expression become more and more distressed. "I'm just living a lie... and I'm tried of it."

Taking a deep breath, (Y/n) slowly figures out a way to help her best friend. A series of questions might help or make things more stressful. It was risk she had to take. Then again it wasn't the first time she's done this.

"This is going to sound dumb but, do you like him romantically?"

She shakes her head, "no you know I do not like men that way. I felt like I had too. So that no one would get suspicious. And he's nice..."

"What else makes you want to date him?"

"Well imagine if people see me with another girl. What would they say? Think? Whisper behind my back? Or if my parents ever found out? I can't take that risk." Yaoyorozu feels slightly better saying out loud. (Y/n) understands what she's going through, having come out herself a year ago to everyone.

Yaoyorozu saw how people reacted to her coming out. Her parents were hesitant at first but were fine with it after some time had passed. A few friends had left her but they weren't close anyway. Seeing them leave didn't bother her in the slightest. Later she said, "I knew some people wouldn't be cool with it and that's fine. I wouldn't want someone in my life who dislikes me that much because of my sexuality." Some students to U.A. would whisper slurs and rude comments behind her back. (Y/n) always had a witty come back to say.

She wished she had the confidence to say that. To tell everyone about who she likes, the women she's had crushes on her whole life. To say who she really likes and doesn't have to be ashamed of it. She is aware of (Y/n)'s crush on her after all. And vice versa.

(Y/n) didn't care if Yaoyorozu dated her or even liked her romantically. She just wants her to be happy. Being with this guy, as nice as he is, isn't accomplishing this goal.

So she moves forward, taking her hands in hers. "There will be people out there who will dislike you for your sexuality. But that also means those same people wouldn't like you in the first place. It's apart of who you are, you shouldn't have to hide it from everyone. I know you, Momo, you are proud of who you are. And others will be too."

Yaoyorozu still doesn't seem to have calmed down completely yet. "There's no way to be certain. And what about my future? My career, whatever it turns out to be. If they know I love women; will I even get a job?"

"You will. Your future will be bright and warm because that what you want it to be. The hard work you put into everything shows. It speaks volume. Society is slowing changing everyday. More and more people are changing their views on us. Our community, our people and our way of life. Everything's gonna be okay and turn out right. You just can't see it right now."

Tears flooded her eyes and she takes her hands back to wipe them away. "Thank you for being here. You've always been by my side."

Pulling her into a hug, "and I always will be. That includes us committing crimes together."

Yaoyorozu laughs but doesn't let go. She feels loved in this movement. Not romantic or platonic. Just loved.

----

A week has passed since that night at the library. The girls acted like it never happened and went on with their lives. (Y/n)'s words stayed with Yaoyorozu. It gave her the courage and strength to see her boyfriend today.

She waits for him at a café she's never been in. Made sure that he had nothing major planned the next day. Nothing to throw him off his rhythm. Sometimes she was too nice, her friends always told her so.

The door opens and the bell rings, "welcome!" One of the café workers greeted her boyfriend. He spots Yaoyorozu and thanks the staff. He was also too nice sometimes.

"Hey," he smiles before noticing the serious look on her face. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"Sort of..." She clears her throat and looks into his eyes. "There is been something I've been meaning to tell you. Please do not take this the wrong way."

"Of course not. Tell me when you're ready." He answers, giving her a reassuring smile.

The workers were watching from afar, listening in on their conversation. Unsure if they should interrupt and ask if the couple wanted to order anything. Or just leave them alone. Taking too long to decide, Yaoyorozu continues.

"I like women." She says softly hoping the other costumers do not hear, "and only women."

The staff workers swore they could see him going through the five stages of grief. Really he just needed time to process what she told him. He didn't speak for a moment. "Okay." Everyone listening in on the conversation could feel how awkward it is. "I mean I had a feeling that you like girls but then we started to date..." He stops himself.

"I'm really sorry I put you through this."

He shakes his head, "no no it's okay. I want you to be happy, and I guess you're not happy with me. There's nothing wrong with that, Yaoyorozu. I'm glad you told me sooner rather than later."

Yaoyorozu sighs of relief. A large weight has been lifted off of her shoulders. Unfortunately there was still many more that needed to be lifted. Take it one step at a time, she tells herself. "My parents do not know. Or anyone else but (Y/n). I'm sorry to ask this but, please keep it a secret."

"Of course," he puts his hand on top of hers. To reassure her, in a friendly way. "I won't say a word. And there's no need to apologize." He takes his hand back after seeing the tension in her face ease up a little.

"I just did not want to lead you on or anything. Or lie to you." She keeps explaining herself. He lets her talk it out. Thinking she must have been working out what to say in her head for some time now. "You're a really sweet guy and I'm sure you will find someone else. Thank you for understanding."

They leave the café and head off in different directions. He turns to look at Yaoyorozu one last time. She was already walking away and didn't look back. "Did her hair always have slight waves in it?"
