Melanie's POV
I'm in the middle of an argument. Literally.
My two closest friends are bickering while I'm in between them like bars that keeps them from harming eachother. I don't even know if they can do that. I mean Raelynn's too pure to start a fight and Laura has to keep her status on high standard, although her class attendance won't do her much.
I understand why Raelynn brought up about detention. That's why they're fighting right now. Laura hates hearing about responsibilities and stuff like that. She says those are for cowards. She can't be more wrong.
But I don't want to butt in their conversation. Besides, they're talking about pool parties right now and I have no idea how they got there. I think they completely forgot about what happened during lunch and picked up random topics to fight about.
"You know what? I'm done with you. I'm going home on my own." Raelynn says as we reach the front hall way of our school.
I frown. "But aren't we supposed to go home together?"
"Not today, Melanie." She goes through the door and leave us standing together in silence.
Suddenly, Laura puts her arm around my neck and I look at her confusedly.
"Listen, Mal. You should stop hanging out with that buzzkill. Hang out with my group instead. We've got plenty of invitations to fun parties for you."
I'm not into parties so I'm not sure what point she's trying to make right now. A true friend would know that I don't do well with crowds.
"Sorry, Lau, but I can't do that. Raelynn's my best friend. Besides, she haven't done anything wrong to me. Even if she did, I made a promise to be by her side no matter what."
"What? Like a marriage vow? You've got to be kidding me. Look, that's lame even for you. Rae's nothing but a party pooper. She's not even fun to be with."
That's where she crosses the line. I scoff and push her arm away from my shoulders.
"You don't know what you're talking about. The most fun I had is when I'm with her. Now, stop trying to tear our friendship apart and leave us alone!"
"Oh, you're gonna regret it."
I don't say anything anymore and storm out of the building. Rae's a slow walker so she's prabably not that far from the school yet. I know she said she wants to go home alone but I don't think she meant it. We always go home together. It's weird if we don't.
Because, to be honest, I really like her.
"Rae!" I shout.
"Wait, for me!"
She turns around and before she can say anything, I leap into her arms.
"Mela-"
"-You weren't really trying to leave me, were you?" I cut her off.
She hugs me back. I can feel her soft skin on my cheek and her curly hair brushing my finger tips. I want to stroke her hair but I'm afraid that would be too much.
"Of course not." she says.
She pulls away and holds both of my shoulders while looking at the ground and blushing.
Wow, I've never seen this soft side of her before.
"I just thought you'd rather be with Laura. Since, you know, she's cool and all."
"What? Why would you say that! Laura's a jerk!"
Raelynn giggles and hushes me. "People could hear you." she whispers.
"Whoops. Sorry."
She looks at me and smile. "You really can't be without me, huh?"
"Nope. I'm you're parasite."
"You know, you've been watching too much anime lately. You need to stop."
"Fine, what about your little gremlin?"
"Oh my gosh. No, that's even worse."
We both break out laughing.
Soon, I continue telling her about Attack on Titan and accidentally hitting her face in the process as I stim with my hands. I gotta admit, she's a good listener. I can't last a minute when I hear people talking about something I have no interest in.
That's not the only thing I like about her. She's a good reminder too. Whenever I zone in too much in my mangas, I lose the track of time and Raelynn is always there to stop me on the right moment. Some people might say she's a buzzkill, but I find her rather helpful as a friend.
"Anyways, enough about anime. What about you? Is something going on? You seem to be out of it this evening. You even forgot to remind me about lunch time."
"What? Am I your alarm clock or somethin?"
"Whatever. Just get to the point."
She sighs and rub the back of her neck. "I don't know I just–"
She looks at me and pauses. "Just... Just..."
"Just what?" I ask.
"Just thinking about a crush!"
Somehow that breaks my heart. I know we won't ever end up together, I don't know what I was expecting, but it hurts to hear her find interest in someone else. I guess I'm just jealous because she's always been the person I hung out with ever since I was little.
However, no matter what, I should still support her as a friend.
"Really? Does he know you?"
"No."
"Well, what class is he from?"
"He's not in our school. He's... somewhere in New York."
"Oh, okay."
Maybe I should stop asking about him. She seems uncomfortable bringing it up. It's probably why she didn't tell me.
"Well, if you need help with any of it, just let me know, kay?"
"Kay..."
A/N- Sorry if the intro is too long. But you're in for a ride on the next chapter. So be prepared ;)
