Nakajima Atsushi was an 18 year old boy, who had gotten out of his orphanage. He'd been struggling so much over the past 7 months ever since he left his orphanage. He hasn't paid off his rent and doesn't have a good job.

"ATSUSHI GET YOUR ASS TO MY OFFICE NOW!" Atsushi's boss yelled.

Atsushi arrived at his boss's office very nervous and sat down in front of his boss's desk. "I had another complaint from one of the customer's saying someone spit in their drink and YOU were the one who served that drink to them!" Atsushi's boss said very angry. "S-sir, that wasn't me that must've been Haru!" Atsushi said trying not to lose his job. "This is the 10th fucking time you've mentioned Haru in these situations! And he's never done anything!" His boss raised his voice. "B-but sir-" Atsushi started. "YOUR FIRED! GET THE HELL OUT!" His boss yelled, getting pissed at that point.

Later that night Atsushi sat on his bed in his crappy apartment. Atsushi stared at the wall, the very same wall he would always stare at when he was down.

You see, Atsushi was never loved or welcomed anywhere he was always treated very badly. In his orphanage every time an adult would come to get a kid Atsushi would be on his best behavior but like always they would go pick one of the other kids. The people who took care of him at his orphanage would treat him like crap, always giving him less food than everyone else and always abused him. All he wanted was a life with someone who he'd be loved by.

He looked at the clock and saw it was 8:30. His stomach growled, Atsushi opened his wallet and saw he had a couple of yen. He grabbed 500 yen (equal to 5 dollars) and decided to go get a cup of ramen noodles.

After he got his dinner he went back to the subway station. He sat there on the bench waiting for his train to get there. A man sat next to Atsushi with a nice medium sized silver briefcase. "Sir? Would you like to play a game." The stranger asked Atsushi. "Look sir I don't want to buy anything your trying to sell I don't have that much money." Atsushi wasn't in the mood to play a game anyways.

"No no sir! I think you got it all wrong! I want to just play a simple game." The stranger opened the briefcase and inside it showed a bunch of yen and a red and blue folded piece of paper. "What's this?" Atsushi asked, keeping his eyes on the yen. "Do you know the game Ddakji?" The stranger asked. "No it doesn't sound familiar." "Ddakji is a game that can involve multiple people but for now it'll just be you and me playing the game. What you first do if you take one of the folded paper, place it on the ground and you have to try hitting it as hard as you can to make it flip over. If you win I will give you 5,000 yen. If I win you'll have to pay me back. Deal?" Atsushi was a little hesitant; he didn't have the money to pay the stranger back if lost, but the game did sound interesting and easy. "Deal!" Atsushi said. "So which color will you choose?" The guy asked. "Blue please."

Atsushi hit the red square piece of paper but it didn't flip. "U-uhm sir. I don't have the money to pay you ba-" The man slapped Atsushi in the face. "Each time you lose I'll just slap you in the face." The man hit the blue square piece of paper next and then it flipped.

One hour went by and Atsushi finally managed to flip the piece of paper. He received his 5,000 yen but before the man left he handed Atsushi a card. "If you wanna compete in games like these to win a whole lot of yen then call the number on the back whenever you want." The man walked into his subway train and left.

Atsushi looked down at the card. On the card he saw a circle, triangle, and lastly a square he looked on the back of the card and saw the number the man was talking about. Later at 3 am he stared at the card on his bed. He kept thinking to himself. 'Should I? Would it be worth it? I really don't have a choice,' Atsushi sighed. "I have to do this, it's my only hope..." He whispered to himself. He dialed the number and someone who had answered. "Would you like to participate in these games sir?" Atsushi could tell it was a woman who picked up the phone. "U-uhm yes ma'am!" Atsushi said with confidence. "Meet at ************ tomorrow at 12 am." The lady said. "Alright..." Atsushi said.

Things were starting to get interesting! Atsushi is now having a chance to earn some money. Atsushi thought life was getting better.

But was it?
