Chapter 2: Green Light Red Light

Atsushi had just arrived at the address the lady on the phone gave him. It was 11:59, 1 minute. Then it had finally turned 12 and a strange silver van had driven up to Atsushi. The van door opened and Atsushi was hesitant to go inside this van but he decided to go inside. He saw four other people in the van who looked like they were sleeping. "W-wow looks like everyone's sleeping, right?" Atsushi said with a nervous laugh. A gas had spread around Atsushi, Atsushi started coughing and then went to sleep.

Atsushi slowly opened his eyes after many hours later. He got up and saw a bunch of other people around him with green tracksuits. Same with Atsushi he had the same clothes as everyone else did. Atsushi got out of the bed and roamed around the room. He saw other people talking to others but he knew he wouldn't be making any friends and would have to work by himself.

Atsushi bumped into a tall man, he looked up to see a tall brunette. "I-I'm sorry sir- I d-didn't mean t-to." Atsushi stuttered. "It's alright. I know you didn't mean to." The tall man said with a smile. "I'm Osamu Dazai! You?" Dazai introduced himself. "I-I'm Atsushi, Nakajima Atsushi." "Nice to meet you, Atsushi say let's be friends." He said with a warm smile. "Ok!" Atsushi said with a smile too.

Atsushi noticed really tall bunk beds and a big door in the front of the room that looked like an elevator? He saw that everyone had a number on their shirt. He looked down at his jacket to see what number he had. "456..." Atsushi mumbled to himself. "He Atsushi there's 456 players." Dazai pointed in the front of the room which had a screen that showed 456 players. "Looks like you have the last number." Dazai said. Atsushi looked at Dazai's jacket and saw the number 1.

"And you have the first number!" Atsushi said.

"That's interesting." Dazai said.

Suddenly the elevator door opened, and it looked like guards had come out of the elevator. The guards wore reddish-pink with suits with hoodies over them and each guard had a mask with a shape. They each carried a gun, and there were a bunch of triangles and one square.

"Hello. Welcome to the squid games! The first game will begin in a moment, but first you must do two things before you can start! Thank you!" It seemed some woman on the announcements had announced that.

"Alright everyone line up!" The guard with the square mask had said.

Everyone had formed a line and each person signed a paper. Atsushi looked down at the paper 'This must be just for safety purposes!' Atsushi thought. He signed his signature on the paper and handed it to the triangle guard and met back up with Dazai.

A little bit later Atsushi was walking through this confusing room with stairs, a bunch of windows, and different colored walls. Atsushi stood in front of this wall with a small screen, the screen said "smile!" So Atsushi gave a big warm smile. And the small screen took a picture and Atsushi moved on.

A little bit later after everyone was done, everyone got split up. Atsushi's group gathered in front of a big door. Suddenly the door opened. The announcements suddenly came back on. "You will be playing green light red light! When the doll says green light you may proceed to move! If the doll says red light you have to stop moving! If the doll detects movement from you, you will be eliminated! Let the game begin!" The announcements turned off, and the timer had started.

There was a big doll with yellow clothing and two pigtails. Behind the doll was a tree and beside the doll were two guards who were triangles. The doll turned around and said, "green light!" Giving at least 5 seconds for everyone to move. These two guys came running onto the sand field, they looked like friends and they seemed to make a bet on who could get passed first.

The doll said, "red light!" And turned around fast, the guy in front had stopped but almost fell so he tried keeping himself standing. The doll detected the guy moving. Suddenly there was a gunshot. And the guy in the front had fallen. His friend's eyes had widened. The doll turned around once again. "Green light!" It said out loud. The guy came walking to his friend and stopped as soon as the doll said red light. "H-hey wake up dude!" His friend said. But the guy on the floor had coughed up blood. His friend freaked out and ran back towards the door. The doll shot the guy who had ran. Which made blood splatter on a woman who was near him. When everyone saw that, the woman screamed! And soon everyone ran all over the place which made a bunch of people get shot.

After that moment the game continued. "Green light!" The doll said. Atsushi was moving hesitantly now but tried his best to win this. Dazai was way up in the front, every time the doll would say green light Dazai would speed walk and laugh like it was an actual game. But this time when the doll said green light a small ginger had tripped over a dead body and almost fell right when the doll was about to say red light. But Dazai caught the small ginger and made the ginger's head rest on Dazai's chest.

The doll turned around fast detecting any movement and shot a person in the very back. Then turned around and continued. The ginger pushed Dazai away and speed walked in front of Dazai. It seemed the ginger and brunette were close to making it past the red line. But Atsushi was pretty far behind.

One minute later Dazai had made it past the line and same with the ginger. Atsushi was close but he was afraid he would make one wrong move and BOOM! He would be dead. He had 43 seconds left.

"Green light!" The doll said. Atsushi ran trying to hurry. "Red light!" Atsushi stopped fast again. "Green light!" Atsushi ran and jumped over the red line he made it! He was breathing heavily when he passed the line he saw the timer and he just made it! Because when he jumped over it was 3 seconds. The game was finally over and there were five people left standing on the sand field. Of course all of them got shot.

Later that night everyone was sitting around the room all sweaty. Some people discussed what they were gonna do, others cried or freaked the hell out. Atsushi sat by Dazai. "W-what are we gonna do?!" Atsushi said, freaking out, he really regretted coming here.

"I don't know, all I know is that these games are probably gonna get even harder. But also I've noticed everyone here has something in common." Dazai said, looking around the room. "

What is it?" Atsushi asked curiously but still freaked out.

"Everyone came in here because we've all had poor and crappy lives before we came in here. We're all trying to earn money to pay off rent, provide for families, or maybe trying to go to the U.S." Dazai wasn't wrong, I mean Atsushi could relate.

Suddenly the announcements came back on.
