" I was playing Grav-Ball and fell! It can't be broken can it?! "
" No, no. It is just a sprain, allow me. "
H. J. had returned to work a week later, after helping the police capture Kurozawa's band of mercenaries, he had received commendation from the Confederacy's top magical law enforcement division, the A. A. A. In reward for spectacular service upholding the laws of the Confederacy, H. J. was allowed to officially register Takaski, Doris, and the others as his Ministrae, his Disciples. In reality it was not much of a reward, it was simply a clerical matter that had become something of a point of pride for many of his graduating class; H. J. was someone who had truly accomplished something just out of the academy, he was not just a healer stuck at a high school in the Old World. He was one step closer to becoming a Magister Magi, something that no one else had accomplished up to that point.
But in just three months, he was back to his routine, putting his magical potential and training aside so that he could mix potions to keep the flu from spreading at school, or to patch up the kids who hurt themselves during Physical Education class. He withdrew back into his books, hardly taking the time to even look at the students who came in during the day. He would inspect them with his ESP, sense the injury and cast the healing spell, all without losing his place on the page.
" The examination is complete, you can return to Mrs. Haruzuka and inform her that she needs to take it easy on Grav-Ball; Zero Gravity magic means a greater chance of physical injury. "
" Thanks Nurse Elliot! " The student said, rushing out the door, she neglected to fully close it before exiting into the hallway, leaving it slightly ajar.
" I'm a qualified healer and combat professional, but a practical door-closing spell seemed to have evaded me. If only I had taken the time to learn it.... " H. J. sighed and got up from the chair, ready to close the door, he had the doorknob in his hands before he was stopped by the next visitor.
" Nurse Elliot, my stomach hurts. Can I have some medicine? " A timid and pained look on the girl's face told him that his day was far from over. Putting his mask of professionalism back on, he smiled and retreated back to his desk and began pawing through the cupboards.
" Of course. I have an antacid right here. "
At the end of the school day, H. J. locked up his office and headed out of the atrium of the school. The sun was looming over him in a humid heat; he did not need his ESP to sense that the clouds in the sky were pointing towards a sudden storm. He knew it would be another night in at the hotel, with just the hot spring and the rain to keep him company.
He wanted to ask his disciples to come over, but he shied away from it. Takashi had been absent from school for over a week now, so he definitely was not available. When he asked Fabius he was told that the swordsman had been an excursions to Mt. Atago to hone his skill with the sword. When he probed further Fabius shooed him off, telling him that he was in no position to keep tabs on what his bodyguard did in his free time.
He had seen Hideo earlier in the day running with his gang of hoodlums, heading to their hideout on the other side of the hovercraft center. Their names had been plastered on every news-feed and operating service in Japan, and with it came the mob of people interested in the notoriety and fame that had come their way. This went double for Hideo, whose general demeanor meant he made more enemies than friends. Thirty people were waiting for him at school the next day, young thugs who wanted to test their mettle against the most famous street fighter in Kyoto. That day H. J. had to patch up thirty young men who were soundly beaten by Hideo, whose Pactio gave him the power to easily defeat them all in a single strike.
