🏮35. Nova's Health and Preparations

Amber finished making the poison for tomorrow and had just finished giving some more medicine to Nova. Over the past week she had secretly removed cancerous tumors off of Nova's vocal chords and her lungs. All she had told Nova was that she would heal her so that she would be able to talk.

The vocal chord surgery had been horribly tricky. If she could have paid anyone else to do it, she would have. Although this world is quite advanced in some areas, their medical technology was abysmal. Mainly because people rely on magic so much and magic healers are incredibly rare. Most magic healers are elves, and they usually keep to themselves.

You also have to know what you're looking at and how you should heal in the first place. Because of the rarity of magic healers, there are 'Divine Doctors' who have somewhat studied the human body and use magic tools to heal with. These are items that magic healers make for others to use. They are imbued with their healing magic, but they are expensive because of the rarity of healing magic users.

The only reason why Amber attempted the surgery was because she made some healing medicine with some mana water and herbs. She dipped her scalpel into the mixture. While she was cutting, Nova was almost instantly being healed after the blade passed through. It was absolutely nerve wracking.

As for the cancerous tumors in Nova's lungs, they're still there. Well some of it's gone, but it'll take time.

She had Nova take hot steaming baths in her medical mixture twice a day. Every time she soaked in the mixture and breathed in the steam, it worked to clear up some of the damage to her lungs. Amber wasn't sure why, but this new body of hers could smell sickness. From the moment she entered this new body, she could smell everything around her to a shocking degree. It just took her a bit to fully distinguish the different scents. Thank goodness she transmigrated into an area where people typically bathe. She wasn't looking forward to working on patients that have hygiene issues. Her nose stung regularly just walking around in the market, but it definitely made finding herbs infinitely easier.

Now that Nova is cleaned up and a bit healthier, she actually looks like she'll be a beauty when she grows up. Although she's still scrawny and needs to put on more weight, her cheeks aren't quite as sunken. Her big dark blue eyes have brightened up to look like a beautiful night sky and her light brown hair has become silky and thick with waves and dark blonde highlights. She frequently smiles and skips when she walks.

Amber has started to feel like the house she's been staying at almost feels like a home since these people have come to live with her. She has felt some warmth in her heart occasionally, but she soon pushed it away and tried to ignore it. Caring about people only brought pain and disappointment.

Amber walked out of her lab and into the living room. Nova was in the tub soaking and Mabel was in the kitchen cleaning up. Amber, Nova, and Mabel had quietly eaten earlier. Fortis was still gone, Ena hadn't returned from earlier in the day, and Fudd was out hunting. Her little fox had also run off shortly after she arrived back in Rafferty Village and hadn't returned yet. She was worried about him, and hoped that he would come back soon. Perhaps she scared him off, he had gotten horribly injured shortly after he decided to follow her. It definitely wouldn't be the first time she had been abandoned.

To be honest, Amber was both nervous and excited about tomorrow. She had a long shiny black dress that had sewn in little purple gems made with a short train and an off the shoulder neckline. It was shorter in the front just covering her knees and longer in the back with sewn in layers and her back exposed. This type of fashion wasn't previously seen in this world, but she loved it.

She also had a small gothic equestrian top-hat made with silk black roses on it and a veil that obscured her face, showing only one eye and the side of her plump cherry lips. She was supposed to be hideous after all, so she couldn't show herself healed. She had black stiletto high heels custom made and was going to wear long black gloves. She'd have on some of her metal bracelets just in case and have some things hidden in the pockets she had sewn under the side folds of her dress. You can't even tell that there are pockets, it's great. Pockets are life.

The finishing touch of her outfit for tomorrow was her long silver hair curled into a side ponytail, her large amethyst necklace, and dangling earrings. She had a bit of a weakness for fashion, but in her past life she had been too meek to wear anything except very basic clothing. In this life, she would wear what she wanted.

She also had ordered several other similar outfits as well as some more modern styles for herself. She also ordered some things made for Mabel, Fudd, Jasmine, Rose, and Lilly.

Amber was going to take Nova over to the little clothing shop next week when she hopefully started talking. She wanted her to be able to order exactly what she wanted. Hopefully this would give her a little more incentive to try talking.

Fudd ordered a couple of sturdy dark brown brushed leather outfits, sturdy boots, and a couple of satchel bags. Mabel ordered some light colored basic dresses with some matching aprons that have deep pockets in them. She also ordered some comfortable ballet flats. Amber had a little layered black dress with a tiny hair bow made for her shadow pixie. Ena didn't need to wear human clothing, but she thought it was pretty and happily accepted the gift. She also had an amethyst covered collar made for her fox, but he took off shortly after she attached it to his neck. Hopefully he wasn't mad at her. She wasn't sure what to give a cloud except yummy water, she would have to find out more about what Fluffy liked.
