Raavi couldn't believe it. He had traded her for a pair of kangans of all things. He hadn't listened to her as she had asked him what on earth he was doing. Hadn't listened to his own bhabhi, his mother. No one. He was leaving her despite promising not to. Leaving her.
Teri har ilzaam mujhe manzoor hain, par ye nahin ki main kudgarz hoon. Ki main tujhe chod ke bhaag jaaunga! Who was the man who had said that to her?
Raavi teri ifaazat meri zimmedari hain. Agar mere bhai vahaan nahi aate na? Tab bhi main tujhe chod ke nahi chale jaata. Who was the man who had uttered those words to her? Words that had given her a sense of peace unparalleled by anything, anything in her 20 years. Nearly 21. Words that had tethered her lost soul to his grounding warmth and raging heart.
Her husband, she realised. That man had been her husband, Shiva Pandya. The man talking right now? That wasn't him. That was a 12 year old child in the body of a 22 year old man. Well, if he could reprimand her over being bitter with his family, then she could as well. But she wasn't going to talk to a child, no.
And her husband was a man who was bound by his promises to her if nothing else. To protect her. To be with her.
"Shiva", she whispered in the silence his stubbornness had left behind. And perhaps he knew that something had changed in her mind, because he looked at her. And he saw her. "Tu ne vaada kiya tha mujhse Shiva. Ki tu mujhe kabhi chod ke nahin jaayega. Kahin bhi. Kisi haalat main bhi." And something cleared in his eyes. A raging storm calming down. Realising the destruction left in its wake, parts of itself and the ones closest shattered the most.
She turned and walked back towards the outhouse, and locked herself in the tiny bedroom, curtains pulled close. Waiting, waiting. He jumped in the window before she reached one hundred.
