"So," Avery said, "why did you move here?"
"Well.. My dad's work-"
"Ah. We understand. That's pretty much why everyone moves here." Briar cuts me off.
I look at them.
They are holding hands with Avery.
My brain ignores that.
We sit in silence for a minute.
I look in the distance.
I can hear the triplets yelling in the yard.
I also ignore that.
I look at the leaves of the tree.
They are a pretty shade of purple.
We are in a plum tree.
Why did it take me that long to realize.
"What school are you going to?" Avery asks.
"St. Joan's Catholic School."
"Cool. Us too."
"Ugh, the new uniforms suck so much." Briar complains.
"You mean the middle school ones? Yes, they do."
"So the elementary uniforms look different?" I ask.
"Yeah, quite different." Avery responds.
Briar looks down at her watch.
"Sh- Oops, sorry. Av, we gotta go."
"Oh, okay. Bye.." Avery stops to think for a second, "bye Sarah!"
Briar and Avery start climbing out of the tree.
"You have to stop with that habit, Bry." I hear Avery say.
"I know, but it's hard to stop when everyone else in the house swears."
They continue their conversation as they walk away.
I sigh.
They both are really pretty.
Wait..
Were they holding hands..?
