After chemistry class we head to our English class. I was thinking to go sit in the front but I find myself liking to sit at the back with Ian, so I do just that. When we take our seat I wonder where our teacher is. Our class started 15 mins ago and he or she hasn't joined us yet. Just when I'm about to start a conversation with Ian, a tall man walks inside the classroom. He was quite handsome actually. My eyes then dart to his black handbag in his hands and I immediately regret my thoughts about him.
"Hello class" he begins.
Oh boy why does he have to be my professor? And why does he have to be so freaking handsome? And why am I even thinking that way about my professor?
"I'm Mr Alexander Sanchez. Your English professor for this year. I apologise for being late and today is the first time we meet since I was not present yesterday. So everyone please take out your books and copybooks and then we can get started." Professor Sanchez says as he takes out his laptop and books and places them on his desk.
"And one thing, I do not like anyone talking in my lessons while I'm explaining or even if I'm not. That doesn't mean you should talk when I am not explaining. And when I arrive, your books and copybooks, everything that concerns my class should already be on the table before I arrive. For today I'll let it slide because you didn't know. Everyone should already be in class by the time I arrive and when I see someone come in the class even 1 minute after me, they will stay out my class. Those are my rules and I hope everyone behaves as per my expectations" he adds.
Rude.
"What's his problem?" Ian asked. "I don't know" I replied.
"Okay before we start I would like everyone to introduce themselves" Professor Sanchez says.
He starts with the first row. "Hello sir, my name is Regina Haskel" I heard the familiar voice say from the front. Haskel, I remember that name and that voice. Why is she in every class with me. I hope she's only in Chemistry and English because I don't want her in anymore classes with me.
Everyone Introduced themselves and then it was time for the last row. "Hello everyone, my name is Valerie Miller" I said and immediately I saw Regina turn around to face me. I could tell she was quite annoyed to see me as well. But why?
"Alright now that everyone has introduced themselves let's proceed with our class" Mr Sanchez said.
"Alright so for our first class I will be giving you an essay to work on. You have a week to work on it. Your essay should consist of at least 1300 - 1500 words. And your topic is 'Are books still relevant, or should we all switch to computers, phones, and tablets?' Try explaining your opinion on this. The advantages and disadvantages of technologies. If you agree try explaining the ways that you would try to make people switch from books to computers and if you disagree try explaining why do you think we shouldn't switch to technology and the ways that you would help people to not switch from books to computers, phones and tablets"
"Remember only a week to work on this and kindly spare me the 'Oh Sir I did the essay but I forgot it at home, can I bring it tomorrow?' because that will not be accepted and you will get an instant zero. So I expect all of you to take this class seriously and then we should be good" he adds.
"Dude an essay on the first day of class?" I whisper to Ian.
"Any question Miss Miller?" I hear him ask.
"No Sir" I immediately look at him.
God I hate him already.
"Okay so I suppose that is it for the essay part, let's move on" he proceeds to take one of the books on his desk.
"Everyone open your books to page 18. There's a comprehension on 'Vision', read it and then attempt the following questions on page 21. This will be your classwork and homework and if you're finished before the bell rings you can bring your work for me to correct. Okay everyone get started" he says as he sit back down in his chair.
I look over at Ian and he gives me an exhausted look. We weren't even half way through the day and that look he is giving me I can already tell that he wants to go home. But me on the other hand the work was nothing for me. So I immediately start my work and by the time I finish I look at everyone else and they are all still buried in their work. I was that one student that always finishes her work first, does every homework, returns assignments on time and also that one student that tells the teacher about the homework or test that he has forgotten.
Now that I think about it that's probably the reason why I have no friends. But I didn't care, I have always prioritised my education than trying to make friends.
Since I was already finished with my work, I decided to go up to Mr Sanchez's desk for him to correct my work. I go up to his desk and he doesn't seem to notice me until I place my copybook on his table.
"Done so soon?" I hear him ask and I just nod. I don't know why but I just felt annoyed at him for no reason.
"Words Miss Miller"
"Yes" I say even more annoyed than before.
"Yes who? The table? The whiteboard? your friend?" He raised his voice slightly and I can hear a light chuckle from the background and I know exactly who that is. That bitch.
I felt so annoyed I wanted to tell him exactly what's on my mind but I decide against it.
"Yes sir" my tone cold as ice.
He begins to correct my work and when he is halfway done the bell rings and I am grateful. Not wanting to be late to my next class I decide to start talking.
"Sir I think you can correct the rest in our next class. I wouldn't want to be late to my next class" i said. He lifts his head up to look at me and begins "Now listen up Miss Miller I'm the type of guy that doesn't leave a job undone. I cannot leave it half done so you will sit here until I'm done and then you will go. Understood?" he said giving me a stern look.
What the hell is this guy's problem?
I look back at Ian and he is waiting for me so we can both walk to class. "Wait for me" I mouth to him and he seem to understood.
I look at Mr Sanchez and he is staring back at me which makes me slightly uncomfortable. "What class do you have right now" he asks. "Sociology" I reply coldly. If he is about to be mean like this then I have my way to. "With whom?" he asks. Boy why you got so many questions?
"Mrs Jenkins" I reply.
"Well tell that little boyfriend of yours to tell the teacher I have asked you to stay back for a few minutes. I'll talk to her later so she knows he's not lying" He says. Uh the nerves of this guy.
Everyone is walking out the door at this point but Ian is still standing at our table. "I'm sorry Sir but I really need to get going. It doesn't matter if you talk to Mrs Jenkins but I will still miss part of the class. Your class was over 5 mins ago. And also he's not my boyfriend and I don't think its very professional of you to assume things so if you'll excuse me I have to get going-"
"Now what makes you think that's the proper way to talk to a teacher?" he interrupts me.
"Ian Garcia you can head out and go to class. Tell Mrs Jenkins that Miss Valerie Miller is still in class with me and she will come back when I'm done with her" He adds.
"But sir"
"Do want to stay here and miss Sociology? he asks.
"No" I reply and I can see Mr Sanchez raise one of his eyebrows.
"Sir" I immediately add.
I look over to Ian and I can tell he isn't sure what to do. I signal him with my head to go without me and he nods.
"Good now take one of the chairs and sit right here" her points in front of his desk, I nod and when i head to take a chair, Ian exits the room.
Guys don't forget to vote!!!
