A tale of Humans and Hybrids

Chapter 10

A few hybrids were already gathered in the pub when Phil set down Techno on the balcony. Panic filled their voices as they were asking what was going on, why Wilbur called for a meeting. Said phantom hybrid was sitting on one of the chests that were leaned against the wall, waiting for the other hybrids to arrive.

"Wil, mate, what's happening?" Phil purposefully spoke in Enderspeak, trying to subconsciously get Wilbur to answer the same way so Techno will be able to understand him too. The Phantom just shook his head. "We wait for everyone. I don't want to repeat myself ten times." Phil sighed and pulled Techno with him to sit down in one of the few chairs. Some of the others followed his example and sat down as well, trying to calm down a bit.

When the last hybrid finally arrived, Wilbur stood up and cleared his throat. "Sorry that I called out everyone so early today, but we have a serious problem. Niki, can you tell them what you told me this morning?" The pink haired mermaid nodded and stuck her head out of the water, pulling herself up so she can see everyone. She followed Wilbur's lead and spoke in Enderspeak, which Techno was incredible thankful for.

"Another human tried to enter the sanctuary. He tried to cross the bridge, but the guardians quickly took care of him and pulled him down to drown. There were two other humans that didn't step on the bridge and managed to escape and run back home." She help up a belt with knives and traps bound to it. It clearly belonged to a hunter.

An uproar of panicked questions and screams started to fill the room, some even went and pointed at Techno.

"We shouldn't have allowed him to stay!"

"He probably led them here!"

"We're all gonna die because of him!"

"What if they manage to cross over?!"

"We should just kill him!"

"Throw him with the guardians!"

"ENOUGH!" Techno flinched as Phil stood up and screamed at the others.

"Why the fuck is that his fault now?! He's been here the whole time! Scott and I always watched him and when he was alone at home, the crows watched his every move! There is no way that they are here because of him! We had hunters at the border before! It's not like a giant wall of fog doesn't attract their attention!"

"Well it clearly doesn't fucking work anymore, since one of them managed to cross over!"

"Techno has no bad intentions! He's harmless!"

"You say that now! You're too fucking naive Phil! He sets you free once and you trust him with your life! Did you start telling him all our secrets too?! Tell him how we made the fog and how to get through it?!"

"No I didn't! Not even all of you know how we made that!"

Techno watched as Wilbur and Phil yelled at each other, looking like they will jump at each other's throat. The other hybrids backed away from the fight a bit, clearly uncomfortable. Has this happened before?

The human felt a pang of guilt again. The only reason they are fighting is because of him. Maybe he shouldn't have come here after all. He's the reason their trust in each other is breaking.

"Why can't you see that he is the problem?!"

"He's fucking not! You're just angry at him because he's a human!"

"No I'm angry at you for allowing him to stay!"

"Why is that such a big problem?!"

"Maybe because you're putting us all in danger with it! He could back stab you with your own sword at any second, yet you willingly turn your back to him without worrying at all!"
