Mitch

Mitch was happy when he woke up in Scott’s arms.

He was less happy when he heard a pounding on the door. He would have to get up.

He groaned, dislodging himself from Scott. As he stood up, the person that was knocking spoke up.

“Mitch, please, open up. It’s me.” Mitch tensed up at the voice.

“Scott,” he whispered. “Scott wake up, please,” he shook Scott’s shoulder aggressively. It was all he could do not to cry. Scott sat up quickly.

“What?” Scott asked. “I hear tears on your voice again. What’s wrong?”

“He’s here,” Mitch replied. He felt completely terrified, and unsure how to properly react to the person at the door.

“Who’s here?”

“Tr-tr-“

“Travis.” It wasn’t a question, Mitch knew that Scott knew. Scott set his feet on the ground.

“What are you doing,” he asked weakly.

“I can hear you in there. Please, Mitch. Just talk to me.”

“Scott,” Mitch said, wrapping his arms around Scott as Scott tried to stand up. “He’ll go away eventually.”

“No, Mitch. I don’t want you to live in fear of him. If you won’t tell him to go away, I will.”

“Scott, he’ll take you down in two seconds. I appreciate it, but you can’t-“

“Bullshit. I can do this,” Scott insisted. He stood up, shrugging Mitch off him. Mitch followed him, wrapping his arms around him from behind again.

“Go to the bathroom. I’ll tell him you didn’t come back last night,” Scott whispered.

“Scott,” Mitch whispered back.

“Go, Mitch, don’t test me.”

“Mitch, please, I made a mistake,” Travis called, pounding on the door again.

“Scott-“

“Trust me, just this once.”

“Sc-“

“Mitch I will break this door down if you don’t open it,” Travis yelled angrily.

“Just this once,” Mitch said quietly. He let go and walked into the bathroom, gently shutting the door. He pressed his ear against the door to listen to Scott and Travis.

Scott

"Mi-" Travis cut himself off when Scott swung the door open.

"Who are you?" Scott asked. It occurred to him that Travis didn't even have to know this was Mitch's room. If he could just hide the fact he was blind, Travis wouldn’t know that it was the right room.

"Sorry," Travis said. "My name is Travis. I'm looking for Mitch. Mitch Grassi. This is his room according to the lady at the front? You must be his roommate. Scott, the lady said, right."

"Sorry," he said. "You must have the wrong room. My name is Kevin. My roommate, Avi, is away on break."

"I can't be wrong," Travis said. His voice was getting hysterical, desperate. "You're the blind roommate. You're Scott. I know it."
