chapter 7: search and capture

the next morning, i woke up on winters couch, seeing her laying in my lap and arms wrapped around my body as she snuggled close in her sleep, smiling and hearing my scroll buzz, seeing it was general ironwood trying to call me, and i gently rock winter awake

jessie: winter

she only groans as she holds on tighter, not letting go, so i answer the phone anyways

jessie: hello general

ironwood: hello jessie, do you feel up for taking a mission?

jessie: you know i never turn down a mission sir

ironwood: good, then hurry and get to the war council, we may have a lead in your investigation for you to follow

jessie: are you for real?

ironwood: yes, we believe she may be hiding in atlas at this very moment

jessie: i'm on my way sir

i hang up and rock winter a little harder

jessie: winter, wake up, i need to go

winter: hmmmmm, five more minutes

jessie: it's about the vigilante

her eyes burst wide open, as she quickly sat up, our faces inches from each other as she grows eager to learn more

winter: did i just hear you right?!

jessie: mhm, i need to get to the war council asap

winter: well i'll go get your weapons while you finish getting ready

jessie: thanks, wanna go and get some breakfast to go while we drive there?

winter: we?

jessie: yeah, we are in this investigation together, aren't we?

winter: that is correct, i'll go and get dressed too then

jessie: alright, i'll come and get my weapons before you get dressed

she blushes a little bit, not sure why this time though, but i follow her to the weapons locker and get my weapons while she lays out her own on the bed along with her usual uniform, stepping out so she can get dressed, slipping on and tying my boots, pulling my armored pants down over them as i also pull on my coat and sling on my weapons, seeing her walk out with her sword strapped to her hip and a pistol strapped to the other, tying her hair into a bun on the top with bangs covering one of her eyes as she steps out of her room

 i blushed as i noticed her slim physique outlined by her tight uniform like how mine is also compressed against my body, and i see her turning away blushing, both of us realizing we were staring at each other

i head over to the key ring and grab my car keys while she pulls on her own boots, following me

i reached out towards the counter to grab my sunglasses, putting them on

jessie: ready to go?

winter: i am

with that said, i opened the front door for her and she closed and locked it behind her as we went to my car

taking the key fob in my hands, i unlocked the doors with it and stepped inside the driver side door of the car, winter sitting in the passenger side as i started the car with a loud roar from the engine as i pulled out of her driveway, pulling on to the street and heading straight for atlas command, getting winter some breakfast before we went to command

as i parked the car and locked it, winter and i headed for the check-in office, flashing our operative badges to the security guard and he let us through to the war council, seeing ironwood and the rest of the council already waiting for us to start the meeting for the newest lead on the vigilante
