"We won't blow up the house. Although, no promises."

_______________

Lily has never been one to get upset over being ignored.

Living with her aunt and uncle ever since she can remember is extremely frustrating so she's gotten quite used to being shut down, and it doesn't bother her that much. She has her older twin brother, Harry, and their (sometimes bearable) cousin, Dudley.

The twins stay in Dudley's old bedroom. It's pretty nice. It doesn't have a lot of things, though, but the two of them don't need much. They have Dudley's old stuff after all. Their aunt and uncle thought they didn't need anything else.

They're right, of course. The twins have everything they need, asking for more would simply be inappropriate and disrespectful, given that they had taken them in and brought them up without question.

The way they've been raising them might not be the best or the most...loving, you could say, but it's not their place to complain. At least, that's what Lily thinks. Her brother, Harry, has a different opinion.

He fights with them, talks back, and demands things to be fair and equal when Dudley gets more of something than the two of them, and he always gets in trouble for that. Their aunt and uncle will starve him, deprive him of some privileges like going outside, or lock him in the small cupboard under the stairs.

That's where he is now, while Lily is in their room upstairs, on (quite ironically) the twin bed they share.

Aunt Petunia bangs on the door of the cupboard under the stairs with her palm.

"Up! Get up! Now!"

She bangs on the door one last time before leaving.

Lily gets out of bed and leaves the room still wearing her pyjamas - they once belonged to Dudley. She stops by the staircase landing and peers over the rail to make sure that the coast is clear.

Aunt Petunia walks towards the kitchen and then Lily hears the sound of the frying pan being put on the cooker. She goes down the stairs and sits by Harry's cupboard, trying to remember the dream she had. The sky was dark and there had been a flying motorbike with a shadow of a big man with lots of hair.

Aunt Petunia comes out of the kitchen. She gives Lily a stern look but doesn't say anything because the girl is awake, unlike her brother.

"Are you up yet?" she demands through the door.

"Nearly," Harry answers groggily.

"Well, get a move on, I want everything perfect on Duddy's birthday."

Then she tells Lily to look after the breakfast. The girl sighs and stands up, following her aunt into the kitchen.

"Don't burn anything."

Lily doesn't like 'Duddy's' birthdays, he's extra unbearable then. He always makes a scene if something isn't precisely how he likes it. He gets tons of presents and still complains about them, saying how much he hates that CD player or some of the ten video games he got.

The only way someone will appreciate what they have is if they lose it in a blink of an eye and are left with nothing.

That's not something that has happened to Lily or anyone else she knows, but she likes to think about it sometimes. It makes her feel better after a bad day. It makes her appreciate what she has even when times are bad, instead of what she could get if only her life was better.
