To say that it all happened too fast would be an understatement of the century. It was instantaneous. In the blink of an eye, I was ripped from the light only to plunge into darkness. The dark void surrounding me seemed to stretch onto infinity, no matter what direction I looked to, I was met with the same dark nothingness. In all honesty, this is exactly what I imagined purgatory to be like, a dark endless void where nothing existed but your consciousness. To say that it wasn't peaceful would be a lie, the silence wasn't suffocating, but almost anticipating. It was as if the darkness eagerly awaited my next move with bated breath, its excitement was akin to a gentle current of electricity, buzzing through my head. Time seemed to be nothing more than that of a meaningless construct of law, how can your pass time when time didn't even exist? There truly was nothing, no sense of hot or cold, no sense of smell, touch, taste or sound, no sense of pain or relief, there was truly nothing. Closing my eyes I allowed my body to limply drift in the sea of black, comforted by its gentle embrace.
Are you sure about this one?
My eyes snapped open, desperately trying to locate the first sound I heard. My voice was swallowed by the void unable to call out. I had no idea how long I had been asleep, but not like it mattered in this "purgatory".
They will be the one, they have to.
And just like that, the sensation of falling returned as the light began to pour in from every direction.
