Sometimes, Y/n asked herself why she had ever cried.
I mean, it's just a waste of time and doesn't really do much for you, does it?
When she was younger, Y/n's mother used to tell her that crying was the body's way of expressing the mind's pain.
Four years later, and she was becoming pretty sure it was just bullshit and lies like everything else.
...
Y/n wandered the halls of Ferid Bathory's mansion, her long white cape flowing behind her as she paced restlessly, waiting for him to come find her. He had found another sweet-blooded human, another player in the twisted game he was addicted to playing. Sadly, Y/n did not share his same liking to this particular kind of entertainment, but she still could find some value in watching another one fail time and time again as he teased their young minds with wild notions of escape and some kind of happiness. In Y/n's mind, it was their own fault for still entertaining such foolish dreams; paradise, joy, laughter, all of it. How they still even knew what it was astounded her.
She toyed with the idea of just leaving until he came back, but she didn't want to risk upsetting Krul by returning earlier than planned, and had no intentions of wandering around the city until she could go back on time. So she simply tucked a strand of h/c hair behind her ear and placed her hood atop her head. She further snuggled into the cape, letting it give her a sense of solace and comfort. The cold restlessness that had settled into the pit of her stomach just a moment ago was gone, replaced by a slight feeling of warmth, as much as someone like her could hope to obtain.
"Alright, I'll see you again soon, Mika." She heard Ferid's voice come from a room not far from her.
Her eyes lit up with excitement at the sound, as they did every time she was in her friend's presence. She turned around and strode smoothly towards where it had come from. She approached him, her pace quickening at the sight of his long silver hair flowing behind him. She didn't bother attempting to be stealthy or cautious; she knew a noble like Ferid would of course know that she had arrived and had been keeping tabs on her whereabouts the entire duration of her time there.
"Lord Ferid!" She called out happily, stopping to smile at him.
"Oh, hello, Y/n! How lovely to see you, dear!" He turned on his heel, clapping his gloved hands together and smiling widely at her.
A boy who looked to be about her age peered out from behind the vampire to look at her. While she ordinarily paid Ferid's little pets no mind, something about this one's sapphire gaze made her feel she could drown in it, and she knew she would feel no fear nor pain as she succumbed to it's power if she chose to. He tentatively raised a hand, waving shyly at the half-vampire. Although startled, she raised her hand in turn and waved slightly at the blonde.
"Oh, how could I have forgotten to introduce you? Y/n, this is Mikaela Hyakuya, one of the humans that comes to me at times and graciously gives me his blood!" Ferid placed his hands on the boy's shoulders, kneeling down to his height.
He stood with ease, striding over to Y/n and placing a hand on top of her head, her face still shrouded by the hood of her cape.
"Y/n, Mika has some of the sweetest blood in this whole city," He placed his head next to hers and spoke a bit quieter, but still loud enough for Mikaela to hear.
"Don't you think it would be a fitting first taste for you?"
Upon hearing those words, Y/n's eyes instinctually flicked to the bite marks on his neck, twin beads of blood still perched atop the tiny markings. Her eyes widened, her vision zeroing in on it as her nails dug into her clenched fists. For a moment, she lost control of her body, and felt the familiar sting of adrenaline kick in. She felt herself begin to move forward, the muscles clenching in her legs as her body began to shake with the urge to move forward. It was like a rubberband that would snap the moment she took a step; everything following becoming irreversible, as the band would be forever broken.
Today was not the day that she would become a vampire.
The chiming of a clock alarmed her, and she remembered Krul's words.
"The clock will chime in about an hour, which should be plenty of time for your visit with Ferid. You'll start to get hungry about then, too, so you should come back to me as soon as possible after you hear that."
As her queen predicted, Y/n's whole body began to react to her lack of blood, making it hard to ignore the overwhelming desire she had to get back to Krul. Her teeth clenched, giving her enough space to utter a "tch" as she tore her eyes away from Mika's neck before clutching her chest and taking off in a run towards Krul.
She made it to her estate, and she collapsed against the door of the hall as she pushed it open.
"Queen Krul," She trailed off, falling to her knees and shuddering with pain. Krul's eyes shone with genuine concern as she ran to Y/n and knelt down beside her on the floor.
"Come, come, let's get to the stairs." She scooped up the small girl easily and carried her to the stairs, where she held her upright and forced her to look at her.
"M-My queen, where should I take it fr-from?" Y/n barely had the energy to speak, and she paused every word or so to regain enough strength to say the next.
Krul smiled gently and pet Y/n's hair with one hand. "Neck or wrist. Whichever you nee-"
She was cut off by the feeling of Y/n's fangs sinking into the left side of her neck and beginning to drink hungrily. Her h/c hair was pressed underneath Krul's chin, and she had hugged around her shoulders for stability. Krul brought her arms around her and stroked her back gently. "That's it. Regain your strength, Y/n."
When she was fulfilled, Y/n leaned away from her, mind racked with embarrassment as she stared down at her knees. "I-I'm so sorry, my queen. I shouldn't have take-"
It was her turn to be cut off mid-sentence by Krul using her pointer finger to bring her chin up and forcing her to make eye contact. She cupped her cheek and wiped away the small amount of blood around Y/n's mouth before removing it and saying, "It's natural. It's just how we work, Y/n. You'll have to accept it one was or another."
"You're my queen. The last thing I would want is to disrespect you in any way after all you've done for me." Y/n mumbled, looking off to the side.
Krul let out a light, airy laugh and spoke softly, "You haven't. I said wherever you need, didn't I? If anything, you're disrespecting me right now by questioning a command I gave you."
Y/n's eyes widened, her head snapping back towards Krul. Frantically waving her hands around, she stumbled over an explanation with several profuse apologies thrown in.
Krul reached out and grabbed Y/n's wrists, stopping the flailing that had been ensuing for a few moments. "Y/n, Y/n!" The h/c looked into the vampire queen's red eyes as she spoke. "It was a joke, Y/n. Calm down, you're far too tense." The pinkette giggled slightly at the end of her sentence, positioning a hand at her chin to attempt to stifle her laughter.
Y/n felt yet more embarrassment flutter in her chest, driving hot tears to the edges of her eyes as she once again broke eye contact with Krul and stared off to the side. Krul noticed this, and realized that perhaps the girl was still too sensitive for this manner of teasing. She raised a hand towards Y/n's face and once again cupped her cheek. This time, she used her thumb to wipe away the small tear that had slipped from her h/c eye.
