001, EMERALD EYES

Nothing, that's what Hayley saw in her friend's clear green eyes as Heather glanced at her fiancé. Callum had nothing but adoration in his eyes for the woman who sat beside him and Heather . . . her eyes were blank, never once giving away what she felt.
It was Heather's 'thing', the exact thing all the boys fell for. They could never tell what she was thinking or what she thought of them, she had them all tripping over their feet to find out, and tragically — they only ever found out if she told them herself, Hayley was sure that it was never a pleasant affair.
Hayley had been around Heather long enough to know when she was being genuine or not. This was one of those times when Hayley knew that Heather had donned a plastic mask and braced her heart with steel.
Heather tried her best to remain a mystery to those who would try to solve her, it wasn't an easy task to discover what laid beneath. Pretty faces are like the outlines of crystal vases, so beautifully carved and chiseled and overwhelmingly mysterious, very much so that learning what lies inside becomes an overwhelming need.
Hayley knew that Heather was a puzzle that never wanted to be solved, allowing the puzzle-masters to tinker with your scattered pieces would be too much to give and would mean the forthcoming of vulnerability, the last thing Heather would want.
It was only until that moment did Heather's eyes meet Hayley's, her eyebrows were slightly creased and a flicker of emotion swam in her eyes and then it was gone. Hayley finally saw it, guilt, something about the staggering emotion in her eyes made her feel nauseous, or perhaps it was something else.
Heather noticed her friend's discomfort and forced a smile at her fiancé before unlacing her fingers from between his. She gave Hayley a look, and tilted her head towards the door "C'mon, I think you might need some fresh air."
