the Inspiration of Sebastian Smythe

chapter 1

Third Person

Burt Smiled from the kitchen table as he watched Kurt and Sebastian laughing and giggling about nothing on the couch, Burt was nervous when he first met Sebastian, he didn't know how to react to Kurt dating a Quadriplegic, but once he knew Sebastian's story, and got to know him. Burt loved Sebastian like his own son and even renovated their small Lima home so Sebastian could stay the night without worrying about certain things.

Burt is the first to admit he cried when Sebastian told the story of how he became a quad. the doctor who delivered Sebastian performed a botched c-section, it left his head stuck in his mother for an excessive amount of time, and then when the doctor tried to pull his head out, it gave Sebastian a C5-C6 fracture. Burt remembers shuttering feeling ill as Sebastian told the story.

his phone buzzed and Burt pulled it from his pocket and smiled, he had met Danny Lachlan five weeks earlier on a dating website and they had met in person for the first time 3 weeks ago, they had been officially together 2 weeks and things were going great. but there was still one thing, Burt hadn't told Kurt or anyone for that matter and it scared him, he hated the thought of his boys (as he called Kurt and Sebastian) hating him forever.

Are we still on for tonight? xoxo. reading that Burt realized he needed to tell Kurt and Sebastian now, rather than later or they would hate him for not telling them sooner. yep, I'll pick you up at 7. xoxo. taking a breath he stood up and walked into the living room. his heart started to beat faster as he sat down in his recliner and cleared his throat to get the teen's attention.

"Kurt, Bas, I need to tell you something really important," Burt said sounding more terrified than confident. "what's up dad?" Kurt asked, scooting off of Sebastian's lap, "well, a few weeks ago, I met someone, Kurt doesn't think I didn't love your mother, because I did, she was a beautiful person and will always be in my heart. but for my whole life, I had been lying to myself. Elizabeth was the only one to know and she promised to help me hide my secret until it was safe... I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm gay," Burt said feeling the tears swell in his eyes. "and I met someone, 5 weeks ago, we've been officially dating for 2 weeks, his name is Danny, and I can't imagine life without him," he added letting a few tears fall. 

Kurt stood and hugged his dad. Kurt remembered the feeling of being terrified that his dad was going to disown him or worst when he came out, but know it made so much more sense as to why he didn't. "it's ok Dad," Kurt said, "I want you, and you Sebastian, to meet him soon, we're having a date tonight and it would be great if you could meet him then," Burt said. "we'd love to meet your boyfriend Burt," Sebastian smiled as Kurt turned to look at him. "thanks boys, you're going to love him," Burt smiled whipping the tears from his eyes
