A/N: I am aware how they get Bonnie back doesn't make much sense and isn't true to the tv show but I didn't know how else to do it, and her role will become quite important in the book.
Malachai is perched upon a deep red velvet armchair, smirking at us, his long fingers tapping the chair irritatingly. The cloudy sky looms above him restlessly, waiting for the sun to finally shine through.
"Malachai. You said you would get Bonnie out, so you have to do it." I say, sternly.
Simply, he raises his eyebrows, not fased.
"I've been here one night and you already expect so much of me." He grins.
"Bring Bonnie back or you leave." My voice hardening at his stubbornness.
"Whatever you say, Ali." Malachai smirks, rising from his seat.
The group look at Malachai expectantly, as he rummages around in his pocket. The evening light glares at him, casting his shadow to elongate around the room.
"Take your time, Malachai." Damon says, sarcastically.
Malachai makes eye contact with him and smiles at him sweetly yet psychopathicly. He sighs, before drawing his hands out of his pockets, waving them in the air.
"Looks like I lost the ascendant." He says, sighing sarcastically. "What a shame, maybe little Bon Bon won't be returning."
This remark sets off the bomb of rage tucked away inside of Damon.
"Look, I will give you whatever you want. Just please get Bonnie back." Damon says, angrily but almost tiredly.
"Anything?" Malachai smirks.
"Damon - " I start, already understanding where Malachai is going with this.
"Anything." Damon interrupts.
"Okay, how about you make Bonnie forgive me for all the stuff I did to her in 1994?"
Damon exhales, "Fine, I'll try my best, but I can't promise she will."
"Oh, look!" Malachai reaches into his pocket. "It's the ascendant!"
"Is it just me, or do you want to punch this guy in the face every time he opens his mouth?" Stefan whispers into my ear.
I look into his hazel eyes, before giving him a small smile and turning away. Kai hasn't always been this way, but time and tragedy can change people. Whilst I was being Kai's maid, he was the sweetest guy I had ever known. He used to bring me extra food and sneak me treats and presents that I would never have been able to afford. However this doing those acts of kindness didn't end up well for him. Growing up he had always been the least favourite child, not that his mother knew - or maybe she did but was to afraid to stop it, his Father used to abuse him, leaving scars up and down his back where no one would see them. The pain and anger towards his Father began to drive him to insanity, to the point where he couldn't fight the demons haunting him anymore. So he gave in.
My thoughts trail out of my head as Malachai begins to click the ascendant together, his eyes filled with concentration and determination.
"Sangrium tribum, accinatom denaneto. Sangrium tribum, accinatom denaneto." Malachai breathes, holding the ascendant into the ray of light shining from the towering windows, his eyes sealed shut.
As the spell comes to a close, Malachai's eyes fly open. For a second they are completely white before his irises come back into focus. The ascendant makes a rusty click before falling to pieces at Malachai's feet.
"So...?" Caroline whispers. "Is Bonnie back?"
"The spell worked. But you have to give Bonnie a minute to travel through time and back to reality." Malachai replies. For a moment, I am taken aback at how his voice almost sounds like his old one. His real one; like syrup oozing out of a bottle. His eyes meet mine, and the electricity that once ran through us shivers through my veins before it wriggles out of my system and into his psychotic self.
Silence fills the Salvatore living room as we all wait tensely for Bonnie to arrive. I wonder how she'll arrive, will she just pop out of thin air? Or just walk through the door like she's been here all along?
"Is it meant to take this long?" Caroline asks, impatiently.
"You ask a too many questions - but no for the record it's not." Malachai replies.
"What?! The spell didn't work?" Caroline babbles, anxiously.
"Yes, it did. Otherwise the ascendant wouldn't have broken. She's probably woken up somewhere else..." Malachai says, raising his eyes to ours.
"Where has she woken up? We have to find her!" Caroline exclaims.
"Well, normally you would wake up somewhere special to you. I woke up at.. Um... Doesn't matter. Anyway I thought she might wake up here because you're all here, but obviously you're not that special to her." Malachai says, amused.
"I know where she is, she'll be at the burnt down Gilbert house. There are so many special memories there, it has to be there." Elena works out.
"Well okay, let's go to a burnt down house. I'm sure that place is Bonnie's heaven." Malachai remarks, sarcastically.
"Where did you wake up?" Stefan asks, ignoring Malachai's last statement.
"Why do you care?" Malachai smirks, but the shock is evident in his eyes.
Stefan shrugs, smiling, thinking he has found a weak spot. Malachai notices this and raises his head, up for the game.
"At some waterfall place, I don't know why. Didn't seem to have any special memories that came flooding back to me." Malachai replies, striding towards the door.
My jaw falls open a little, it suddenly hits me. Even though Malachai is psychotic at this very moment, he could change to his real self. I've done it before, hit him where it hurts. Not literally, feed him memories, a little bribery and forcing him to talk about his feelings that he hides behind the psychopath.
The group walk into the light, heading for the Gilbert house. If Elena's prediction is correct, Bonnie should be waking up on the remains right now.
________
"Sorry, I don't mean to be rude. Well kind of, but why would a burnt down house be so important to Bonnie?" Malachai asks. "Was it her house?"
"No, it was mine." Elena replies, solemnly.
"Well, that makes no sense whatsoever." Malachai says, his arms swinging by his side.
"Bonnie!" Elena exclaims, running towards the figure curled up on the ashes of the Gilbert residence.
"Elena?" A distant croaky voice cries.
Elena falls to the floor by the figure, wrapping her into a hug, tears flying from her cheeks. The rest of the group, except from Malachai, join into the hug, rejoicing in our reunion.
Bonnie looks over Elena's shoulder, meeting Malachai's eyes. Her eyes harden, suddenly changing from warm to ice cold. Rage ironed into her face, she pulls out of the hug and lurches herself at Malachai.
