A/N: Before I begin this chapter, I would like to say that this is not a Bonkai fanfiction. Yes, in the last chapter something... Happened between Bonnie and Malachai, but it is merely just an obstacle for Ali and Kai to pass.

(Flashback)
(Alison's POV)

My fingers tap onto the wooden table, as I serve the Parker family their dinner. The tap becomes more urgent as I hand Kai his meal. He looks worriedly into my eyes and signals two taps back. It's our morse code for SOS, not that I actually need help but he hasn't visited my maid's quarters for quite some while and I'm worried.

Pathetic, but I get worried about the littlest things. Last night I heard Kai's beatings, his whimpers of pain, then sharp crack of the whip making contact with his skin. I heard it all. Normally, he would come to my room and I would treat his wounds the best I could. But he hasn't come for three nights.

Smiling politely, I dish out the rest of the plates to his sister Josette and then little Liv and Luke. Carefully, I pour wine into Mr and Mrs Parker's glasses, making sure not a single drop splatters onto the silky white table cloth. Just a single splash could cost me my job, and my job is my entire life. Without it, I wouldn't be able to see Kai, nor would I make money, I wouldn't have a home. I wouldn't have anything.

Once I am finished serving, I curtesy and leave the room, my empty tray balanced delicately on my arm. Patiently, I then wait outside the room for the family to finish.

"Ms Rain!" Mr Parker yells through the door.

Immediately, I open the door.

"Yes, Mr Parker." I say, my voice steady.

"We are finished." He states, placing his napkin onto the table by his empty plate.

"It was lovely, dear." Claudia Parker says as she passes me her plate.

I curtesy in reply as the children say 'Thank you, Ms Rain' in sync as they have been taught to do so.

Taking everybody's plates, I make small eye contact with Kai. His mouth twitches into a smile as he passes me his plate. For a second our hands touch and I feel a piece of food being pressed into my hand. In reply, I give him a polite smile. I am never allowed to try even a small morsel of my food, the proper food, god forbid have a whole piece of what seems like cake. I am fed in the maid's quarters from the minuscule amount of food I am given from my wages.

Clenching the cake in my hand, I start to make my way out of the room.

"Ms Rain, wait a moment please." Mr Parker orders.

Obediently, I turn around, an innocent smile plastered on my face.

"Unclench you hand." Mr Parker says, his eyes drilling into mine.

When he sees the panic rise onto my face, his expression angers.

"Now!" He yells, making the glasses wobble in fright.

My eyes stricken with fear, I slowly unclench my hand letting the cake from Kai spill out of my grip.

"Where did you get that." Mr Parker hisses.

"I - I, I didn't mean any harm, I swear!" I stutter.

"Are you suggesting you stole this bit of cake?" Mr Parker breathes, rising ragingly from his chair.

Cautiously I back away, my blood running cold, shivering down my fragile spine.

"Wait! Father please don't hurt her! I gave her the cake." Kai exclaims, his expression fearful for me,

"Kai! Please don't, you'll get hurt." I cry, tears starting to well up in my eyes.

"Son. Did you give her the cake, when you know well enough that is strictly forbidden?" Mr Parker says, his voice is calm but that is what frightens me. You never know when he is going to strike out. Mr Parker is the vulture and Kai is the prey.

"Ye-yes." Kai stammers.

"Ms Rain, children, Claudia. Please leave the room."Mr Parker whispers, bit loud enough for it to snake round the room like poison.

Obediently, we all tiptoe out of the room, worried that if we make to much sound we might awaken the monster hiding inside of Mr Parker.

Before I shut the door, I look at Kai. His eyes are attempting to look confident but all I see is fear.

_________

Whip. Snap. Scream. Over and over again. I cover my ears, trying to block out the horrific sound. But it's no good. The noise creeps through the floorboards, under the door, through the cracks in my fingers.

Eventually, it stops and sit curled in a ball in the corner of my room, rocking backwards and forwards, my hands pressing against my ears. This is all my fault.

"No it's not." A voice says, as my door creaks open.

My eyes flutter up to meet his. I unravel from my ball and fly into his arms.

"I'm so so sorry, Kai." I cry.

"It's not your fault, it's not your fault." He repeats, his lips tickling my hair.

"Where did he hurt you?" I ask.

"My back." Kai groans.

"Let me see." I say.

Obediently, he rips his top off, revealing his muscular body.

His back is suffocated with scars, trails of them running up and down his back.

"I love you." I whisper, pulling out my medical kit.

He turns around, "I love you too."

And so once again the electricity between us starts to whir as his lips meet mine...

My screams pierce the Salvatore residence as I awake from the same nightmare I have every night. Out lips about to meet, but are pulled away from the treacherous wonders of time.
