As the months went by as Tyler grew, filled with dirty diapers, crying. But there was something missing. Something every newborn needs. Unconditional love. Mother would complain every time Tyler made a noise, but it obviously wasn't possible.
Mother always had special friends growing up. She didn't always stay friends with them for too long though. But luckily she was able to make new friends very easily. Tyler didn't mind them at the time. She didn't like the games that they would play with each other though. Her pillow not resting above her head at night but on top instead. She tried to block the noise.
It didn't work.
Friends came and went. Some were friendly, some weren't. Especially when mother had her powder.
She loved her powder. And her needle.
And her drinks.
And her smokes.
And her friends.
Tyler wasn't on that list.
Mother would fall asleep for a long time sometimes. Her friends loved watching her sleep.
Her friends watched Tyler sleep too.
One of mother's friends took a liking to Tyler. He would play games with her as well. Tyler didn't like those games. She wasn't as good at the games as Mother was. Tyler thought the games would be fun. Like jumping on a trampoline, or swinging on the merry-go-round, everything light and pure.
It wasn't.
Mother's best friend at the time enjoyed Tyler's company more than Mother herself.
He's the one who played those games.
He's the one who bathed her.
He's the one who washed her.
He's the one who touched her.
It hurt.
Mother never found out. Her best friend left after a while as they usually do, and she continued on making new friends as usual. She had forgotten about him as soon as the next friend arrived.
Tyler didn't forget.
She never forgot.
I
never
forgot
