She had been walking with her father for a while-a while being a few seconds because Dusk had been waiting for them outside the throne room, and had her in his arms in no time-continuing on in silence and waiting for the moment he'd explain what was happening, but despite how long she kept waiting, that moment never came.

Even Dusk was awfully silent, and he couldn't keep his mouth shut. And Dawn? She was nowhere to be seen. She would never leave Aurora alone on her birthday, of all days.

Her expectance of the arrival quickly vanished, until they reached the hallway that led to the sleeping quarters.

"Father," Aurora said, "where are you taking me?" He walked alongside her and Dusk, a strange brightness to him. "I deserve some semblance of an answer, don't I? It is my birthday."

"And you will get your answers. I just want you to see the jeweller first."

They arrived at her chambers, and Dusk set her down in the sitting area by the balcony, still unusually quiet, albeit he wore that similar glow, too.

"When is that happening?" she asked, looking up at her father.

"That is what I am going to check. But until then, I want you waiting here before we go." She nodded, watching him make his way out.

Aurora turned to Dusk, eyeing him. "Why are you quiet?" she questioned, leaning back on her palms. "You love talking."

He only smiled in response, dimples appearing.

His silence almost frightened her. Usually, it was a sign of something being wrong, but today... Today seemed different, in a way that his silence seemed to be a result of him not wanting to talk lest he reveal too much.

Deciding to go look for her father, Aurora got up, slowly making her way to the doors and looking around. She smiled at the guards, who smiled back and wished her a happy birthday again, to which she thanked them with a bright and warm smile before carefully making her way down the hallway.

Dusk's footsteps sounded behind her, and then she saw him at her side from her peripheral, looking at her with a small, disapproving frown.

"Good. You are still here," King Ace's voice said as he approached them. "There has been a change of plans. The jeweller is coming up to your chambers. Go back, would you, please?"

Aurora groaned, throwing her head back. "Really?" she asked. "I just walked so far..." She blew out a breath and straightened. "Fine-"

Dusk picked her up and carried her, hurrying her to her chambers and setting her down in front of the doors carefully.
