It was on this exact date, a thousand years ago on a similar rainy night when i met her, Ai Kajiwara. The only person who was capable to make this heart that's never felt a single beat, flutter.
But that time has come to an end. The moment she left me, my heart felt empty once again. My heart returned to how it was, I haven't felt a single budge since then. I longed for the day she would return, but she never did. So here we are, with this glass in my hand, i can finally be reunited with my love.
In hopes that maybe, we will be together in the afterlife.
"To, Ai. My first and last."
______________
PAST.After 500 years I finally get to celebrate it again. I wanted to walk around the city for my birthday, and it was a lucky day for me as it began to rain and the sky turned grey. The lights were beautiful although almost everything was in a blur as the rain got heavier, but i tried to enjoy it while i could, knowing i wouldnt get to experience anything brighter than this.
The first few minutes were fine, but i noticed it poured horribly and the wind was blowing intensely. The shops started to close down due to the frightful weather, making me disappointed as i really wanted to get the food i never got to try. "Its fine," I tried to cheer myself up, its not like I'd die before i get to try it anyway.
"swoosh— splat!" i jumped a little out of surprise. A flower flew right on my face, what a way to start the day. Thats when I realised something horrible was happening, a florist that had displayed flowers outside to sell, everything was ruined by the strong wind and rain. The beautiful flowers flew everywhere. I couldnt see where the shop owner was, so I hurriedly tried to grab everything in hopes they could still be saved.
As i picked up the flowers on the floor, the rain suddenly stopped pouring on me and i could feel warmth coming closer. I looked up only to see a girl looking upset, holding up an umbrella as she reached out a hand, "its alright you dont have to. Theyre done for. I cant sell these.." she told. Thats when i felt it, something i never felt before.
I could feel myself heating up while my heart began to flutter. I didn't know what it was, I nearly thought she was a witch trying to get me sick. "Come on in, you must be cold." She kept reaching out her hand to help me up, but all i could do was stare. I was scared, i thought. I kept getting flashes of the future with her, but they werent as clear as the one's I previously had. I could just feel emotions of what i would feel if i accepted her hand, and for the most part all i could sense was pain and sadness, but through all that there was...
"Love..?" I quickly covered my mouth and turned away, too embarrassed to face her. But she didn't say a word, I don't think she heard it as the rain was heavy afterall.
I returned her a smile and we walked into her shop where it was lit up with candles, there werent any lights, i assumed there was a short circuit due to the weather. I forgot why i was even here in the first place while we sat there together looking out the window. I wasnt bothered by the rain, neither was she it seemed, But the thought of her hard work being ruined because of it, it made me upset for her. I just prayed for it to come to an end, almost as if i forgot without it, i wouldnt be able to return home.
"If you don't mind me asking, what's your name?" She asked out of the blue. I was a little stunned by the sudden question as i didnt forsee it coming in my memories. It was strange, I'd usually be able to see what happens next. But i couldnt help but freeze when she turns to look back at me. "Im.. sorry, i just thought we should have a conversation. The rain doesnt look like it would stop anytime soon. Its alright."
"Yuta. Nakamoto Yuta. And you?" I told as i realised i made her upset by my ignorance.
She smiled at my answer, i was glad. "Ai Kajiwara." She replied.
"You look young, how old are you?"I furrowed my eyebrows and let out a slight laugh in disbelief "Young? Im a thousand years old!". Just a brief moment of silence later was when I realised, i just told her my actual age. Her face began to turn dark as her eyes widened, "Youre.. what.."
"Dont tell me.. youre a.." she stopped herself and took a closer look at my face, caressing my cheek. Then, i knew i would be in serious trouble. I was cold to the touch, there wasnt any chances of her not knowing. I was stupid, but again, all i could do was freeze. The warmth in her hand, it was rather calming. "Vampire.". She gulped.
I began to panic, my eyes started to shake in fear. She could burn me alive if she wanted to, but then, i was left confused. Ai bursted into tears and laughter, "Youre funny, vampire.. no really how old are you. But seriously you need to warm up.. you're ice cold..I'll go grab you something.".
"She.. thought i was joking?" I thought to myself. I quickly thought of an age to lie to her with, and she believed it in an instant, later saying she was only a year younger.
We talked for a while, we really enjoyed each other's company. She kept smiling the entire time too, and i a actually found it quite funny. How I've lived for a thousand years, but I've never seen a smile more beautiful than hers.
"Oh?" Ai stood up from the chair and looked out the window, stopping us mid conversation. "I think.. this is where we say goodbye?".
The rain finally stopped. I could feel that she was disappointed, and that she wanted me to stay, she felt.. lonely. I hate being able to read emotions, it just makes me feel guilty doing literally anything. But i had no other choice, if i waited until the sun shines again, I'll be burned alive before getting to taste what a nasi goreng tastes like.
"Thank you for keeping me warm in here while it was crazy outside. If its fate, we'll meet again, Ai."
- Y"Fate? Don't talk like an old man in theatres, I thought you lived here. Come tomorrow!"
- A"...."
- Y"I open until midnight. I'll make good food tomorrow, i saw how you liked that pasta. Come, To repay me for keeping you safe instead of being struck by lightning."
- A"Tch, saved me." I nodded, "Then, see you tomorrow.".
