As a week grew by,other activities sprang up,including nature walks.The first and second form,like in the High street,had to pair up together. Fennela,like the girls guessed,simply adored Madeline.Why,wasn't she,Madeline Platinum, rich,wealthy and the leader of all luxuries? Madeline had not done a nature walk before,which was pretty obvious."Madeline,can you be my partner?"Fennela had pleaded Madeline.She looked at Fennela.She was quite pretty,not like all of the girls, thought Madeline.So she agreed and they both set off into the woods,clutching their notebooks,stationery and nature tins.Madeline,judging by her rather disgusted look,wasn't very pleased to be in the only very slightly arid forest,capturing creatures and drawing them in her notebook.
Fennela and Madeline sprinted through the forest,squealing of bugs and panting.The two finally came to a standstill as they slowly approached the rest,gasping for breath."Hello,you two! All of us were looking frantically for you.Well,come on Mia,lets catch some frogspawn."Cara turned with Mia and ran to a pond,nearby.Madeline gave a thoroughly disgusted look."Well well,"she laughed."catching frogspawn? That sounds so weird. Who catches frogspawn?"
"Well,we do."retorted Sophie,eager to stand up for her friends.
"Hear,hear!"chorused the others.
Madeline said nothing,but grabbed Fenella's hand and they both rushed over to a yew tree. "Whew! We've finally got away from those simply dreadful first formers.Don't you think they act like little children,rushing round and gasping at every single new find they see."Fennela said quickly,trying to make a good impression on Madeline. She agreed,thinking Fennela was quite understandable in her terms.Fennela stood up suddenly,hearing the call of Miss Oriell."Lets go." she whispered,tugging at Madeline's sleeves.
When they both arrived at the form room,Miss Oriell was speaking."Now class,"she said clearly."we normally have a special day where we have to go swimming,as some of you know that you can swim after school any day in the Summer Term.Now,our swimming coach,Miss Foxton, and our sports captain, Jolina Anderson will be watching you,and if you can't swim,they will gladly coach you." Most of the girls knew that there was a marvellous rock pool by the school grounds,as it was one of the finest in England! "As if." Madeline smirked,spitefully. Most of the girls heard those remarks and glared at her. As if she could say such a thing about the lovely High Towers!
Ellie,Sophie,Lucy,Maisie,Bella,Mia,Cara,Scarlett,Evie and Katherine were in the rock pool,in a few minutes,accompanied by Jolina and Miss Foxton.It was only Fennela and Madeline ,who had dipped their toes into the pool gingerly,then shivered,that was afraid of cold water."If only there was a good spa or jacuzzi here."sighed Madeline, who was used to luxuries only.Fennela agreed.She wasn't as wealthy as Madeline,of course,but she still had quite a few luxuries like Madeline in her time.Madeline continued. " I bet the rest never had luxuries." She said cattily." they are just poor and bad-mannered." Fennela agreed. She remembered the time when the twins stopped her taking one of the best seats,which she had thought she had gained possession of. When the two chattered in disgust, the rest of the form heard, and made a plan. How rude of the two! Then,Ellie pushed Fennela off into the swimming pool! How she screeched! Madeline was about to say how weak and gullible Fennela must be to be able to fall off like that, when Evie did the same to her! Madeline had never had anything as harsh as that in her whole spoiled life.She was used to her doting parents and pampered life,with others being tortured,but to her,that was simply unacceptable. The rest of the amused audience turned into peals of laughter .As this event was unfolding, Miss Foxton,the swimming coach came.
"Now,what on earth is happening? She boomed."I thought that an earthquake was around when there was so many screams." Madeline,who wanted to overturn Miss Foxton with her charm,smiled her charming smile and said calmly; "Well,it's just that everyone wants to duck me and be rude to me, when I have done nothing mean to them." She lisped, turning on her big blue eyes and charming smile. "We didn't," retorted Scarlett.Miss Foxton stuttered. I'm sure she is right,she thought,being overturned by her charm. But,she remembered luckily, pushing that thought out of her head. She had known how loyal and truthful the others were. She was so caught up in her own thoughts she didn't see a familiar figure walking to her.
"Hello, Miss Foxton!" Miss Oriell called, walking closer. "Oh hello." Miss Foxton stuttered,turning red. "Anyway, where is Jolina? I need to get hold of those first, second and third teams for tennis and swimming lists. I bet you all want to know!"
As Miss Oriell knew,many of the girls in the first form had tried out for the tennis and swimming matches, and Jolina was the sports captain who organized all of it. There was also a very large field, where the Athletics were held for throwing, triple and one foot jump, and running.They were only held in the summer term, where there was the best possible time for sun! Most of the form had wanted to get in for different things, though kept them to themselves until the results were out. Only Maisie,Bella,Mia and Cara had consulted to each other about it.
"I wonder who will get in!" squealed Cara, who had said this for about 32 times that day.
"Don't ask me that question again!" sighed Mia, tired of her twin that day enormously.
"Anyway, you'll find out tomorrow," groaned Bella, who felt very drowsy that day.
"Yes, like what she said," whistled Maisie, doing a cartwheel on the floor.
"NO! DON'T DO THAT!" shouted Mia, jerking the others' heads up.
