Old Flames Rekindled (KiriSero) pt 2

The drive to the hospital was quiet save for the radio humming out some song at such a low volume it could hardly be heard over the soft purr of the engine. Kirishima contemplated the easiest way to get Sero inside without making the situation worse by having to leave to grab a wheelchair or parking at the main emergency entrance where he'd have to leave him to park the car. He opted on parking the car in the hospital's parking garage making sure to park close to the elevator. He made a note of what floor he'd parked on and checked his phone, having received a message from Toyomitsu on the drive.

'Take him to the main emergency intake desk. I'll be there shortly, have you eaten yet?'

'Will do. And no, stomachs in knots.' Kirishima knew Toyomitsu was going to bring him food anyway but at least this way hopefully it would be something easy on his stomach. Sliding his phone back into his pocket, he stepped out of the car to Sero's side. He tried not to think too much as he helped his frail friend out of the car before scooping him up into his arms, holding him protectively against his chest.

With a soft exhale, Sero tried to relax. He could already feel his anxiety bubbling up despite how hard he was trying to stay calm. Pressing his ear to Kirishima's chest, he closed his eyes, focusing solely on the steady heart beat and the scent of the body wash that still clung to their skin. He knew where he was there was no avoiding it, but at least filling his senses with as much of his friend as he could, kept the panic attack at bay. He wasn't alone, he wouldn't be alone, Kirishima had promised to stay and he was a man of his word.

As they approached the lobby doors, a nurse noticed them and rushed over with a wheelchair.

"Sir, do you need a wheelchair?" The nurse asked politely with a soft note of concern

"Yes, thank you." Kirishima forced a grin

"Of course." The nurse locked the wheels, keeping the chair in place so Kirishima could set the reluctant Sero down.

Feeling the burn of anxiety in the back of his throat, Sero gripped at Kirishima's shirt until a large warm hand found its way into it instead.

"'S okay, I'm right here." Kirishima whispered pressing a tender kiss to the top of Sero's head

"I'll push." The nurse offered softly so Kirishima could continue to hold Sero's hand as they made their way to the intake desk. It only took a minute or so to reach the automatic doors leading to the lobby.

Chuckling weakly, Sero gripped Kirishima's hand a hair tighter to get his attention. "The invisible ninjas are so nice."

The joke genuinely made Kirishima smile, though his anxiety and concern left him unable to laugh. "Well, they only hire the nice ones. It wouldn't be a good look for the hospital if their patients were assassinated before treatment." He was just happy Sero was cracking jokes again, even if it was a coping mechanism.

A loud snort escaped Sero suddenly as he slapped his hand over his mouth, chuckling into it.

Kirishima's heart squeezed. It had been so long since he'd heard that sound. He missed all the different ways Sero used to laugh, from cackling to wheezing or his personal favorite, snorting mid laugh. Aside from being so genuine, they were absolutely adorable and never failed to make him smile.

When they finally rolled up to the desk, the receptionist asked him for his name and birthdate. He double checked the note he'd written when the pro hero had called a few minutes before. He let them know to take a seat and that they should be called in a few minutes.

Kirishima wheeled Sero over to the end of one of the rows of chairs that happened to be across from two other people, probably close to the same age as them.
