I woke up to the smell of antiseptic.

I glanced to the side of my bed and saw Astrid and Ariana sleeping.

I gently stroked their hair and from my movements, Astrid and Ariana jolted awake.

"Don't ever do that again! I was so worried!" Astrid shouted as she began to cry.

Aww, Astrid rarely cries unless something big happens.

I pulled her in for a hug and rubbed my hand up and down her back and soon her sobs quieted.

From the way Astrid suddenly stiffened, I knew she was feeling embarrassed.

Not saying anything about her obvious embarrassment, I pulled away from her and went to hug Ariana.

"Are you okay, Ari?" I asked her.

She pulled back from our hug and nodded her head. When she saw my gaze, she put her head down.

I frowned and lifted her face by placing two hands on her face.

"What's wrong Ari?" I asked softly.

"I just feel so guilty. That bullet was meant for me." Ariana said with a sad tone.

I tucked in her brown hair behind her ears and said, "Don't feel guilty Ari, I'm the oldest and will always protect you. If I didn't take the bullet for you, then you would have been the one sitting in this hospital bed, not me. I'm glad that I'm the one here, not you. Both of you guys, Astrid and Ariana are the reason for me to live."

Ariana nodded that she understood and I turned towards Astrid.

"Did the authorities come yet?"

"Yes, they came to take DNA samples. I can't stop them or else we will look suspicious." Astrid replied.

My gaze darkened.

Suddenly I felt Ariana's soft and small hand gently squeeze mine and I instantly relaxed.

"It doesn't matter if I stay in the hospital or we leave. The authorities will still find us in a couple of days. We might as well make the most of our last days here. Let's go sisters," I announced as I began to pull out the IV cords.

"Wait, Athena! You need to stay in the hospital for a few more days!" Ariana said, worry evident in her face.

I winked and said, "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I've had worse."

"Come on Ari, help me," Astrid said as she began to pack up our belongings.
