Grant's Point Of View

"Oh shit." I look at them. "My curfew." I sigh. "Parker, drive me a few houses away from mine so I can get home quicker if they find out I'm with you guys then I'm screwed." I told them. They did as I asked and I got out and started running. How did it get late so quick?

I ran up to the porch and opened the door. I saw Glenn and Shelia standing there with my case worker Cas, they waiting for me when I opened the door. Cas still in that old trench coat he has always worn. "Hey guys. Sorry I'm late I got backed up."

"Sit down." They told me as I closed the door, I walked over to the couch and sat down, looking up at them as they stood in front of me. "We checked your schedule, you didn't have work today. That's the only excuse you should be out later then 10 o'clock. What were you doing?" Glenn asked.

"I was out with a few friends." I told them.

"Those two we told you not to be around?" Sheila asked.

"No. No why would I hang around them. They are terrible influences, I was with a tutor, my grades have been below a C and I was trying to get them up." I lie.

"I smell the weed on you." Glenn said.

"We will deduct 30 dollars from your pay this week and you will have to be home by 7 from now on unless you have work." He said.

"What!?" I asked him.

"Maybe you should think about that before doing stupid shit." He said. "Go take a shower and then go to bed when you're done talking with Mr.Cas." I nod and then look up at Cas as they leave.

"How have you been?" He asked me, sitting down beside me with a smile.

"I'm fine." I tell him.

"Why were you out late?" He asked.

"I was hanging out with some friends.." I told him. "I want to have fun.. I'm tired of this place.

"You know this is the best place I've found for you. You need to keep your grades up and be good. I stopped by for a house visit, I wanted to see how you're doing and everything. I see you are doing well so I will be going now, you know to call me if you need me. I sigh, getting up and walking up the stairs. I grab a pair of shorts and a white T-shirt and walk into the bathroom, grabbing a towel and getting in the shower.

"I hate living here." I sigh. I quickly washed up and got out, drying myself off and putting my clothes on. I walked into the room and see a kid with black hair and brown eyes sitting on the once empty bed.

"Hey." He said.

"Hi." I sigh, plopping on my bed.

"So, what's the punishment this time?" Axel asked.

"30 dollars and have to be back here before 7 on nights I don't have to work." I told him. "I honestly hope I don't get a day off this week."

"Hey, new boys name is Austin, he is 16. He likes cars and shit like you, do you think you could get him a job at the shop?" Axel asked me.

"Nah, Bud has already said he doesn't want anyone else. Sorry Austin maybe the diner or some shit." I said.

Gavin looked at me, "why do you always have to cause trouble for yourself?" He asked me.

"Hm. Let me think." I said, acting as if I were thinking hard about it. "Maybe I just like being free."

"Or maybe it's because you like to self destruct." Kyler said.

"Shut up." I say, getting in my bunk and turning over.

"I made him mad." Kyler said.

"You boys be quiet, go to sleep." Glenn said, banging on the door.  The rest of the night was spent thinking. Mostly about my past foster houses, my parents, why they wouldn't want me, and my past relationships. Nothing really ever seems to work out for me.

"Did you guys here about a disappearance?" Gavin asked. "Some girl that goes to our school has gone missing. That's pretty much all I know but yea."

After I heard that news I didn't go to sleep. I stayed up alright thinking of the things I was before that and the girl that had gone missing. Next thing I knew it was 7 am and they wanted us to get up. I didn't get any sleep. I pushed myself to get up and do my chores and then got ready for work. I want to go in early even though I didn't sleep much. I sat on the couch and I ate my granola bar and drank my water, watching a little bit of TV. I'm used to not sleeping much so I'm tired but not about to fall over from exhaustion.

I heard Sheila come in the living room so I walked over to the door and left the house, starting my walk to work. Bud has been teaching me about cars and stuff and I want to get there so I can hopefully one day work on cars.

As I reached the shop I saw Bud sitting their with a magazine and a coffee. I sat down beside him at the old table and sighed. "Ready for work?" He asked. "I need you to change the oil on that car over there, it's an easy job but I'm seeing how well you do on something as simple as that. I smile, he is actually letting me touch a car, this is a big step, he normally just lets me sit there and watch as he tells me what he is doing and what needs to be done. I run over to the car and start the task that was given to me. When I finished, he checked to make sure I did it right and he smiled, telling me good job and giving me a pay on the back.

"Now I need you to take the trash out." He said. That's a much less exciting job. I quickly did what he told me to and then went back to him, sweeping up the shop and then going behind the counter to sale a few car parts and other things related to vehicles. The day passed by quick, Bud got pizza delivered and we ate that until lunch was over, then we went back to work.

After the shop closed I started my walk home, looking around at the dark sky. I know minors aren't supposed to work as long as I do but I enjoy it and I should get a good paycheck, not that it will matter tho. I'll get 20 dollars back.

It felt like someone was watching me or following me. The streets are empty. I turn around and see a tall dark figure wearing all black. I decided to speed up but the figure did as well. I started to run and the figure caught up to me. I tripped and fell, landing on my arm and twisting my ankle. Pain shot through my left arm and ankle. The figure kneeled down and touched my cheek softly and then I saw blue right before everything went black.
